There was another predator working the area...and he didn't have to quit at thirty minutes past sundown, either!

Cool birds, had 2 last week one on each side of me within 30 yards. Never could get a good pic but was fun hearing them converse. After tehy got quite I did a couple hoots and one flew down a lot closer and hooted but still no good for a pic.

I'll never forget the time I looked up and saw a hawk headed straight for my head while squirrel hunting. It taught me a valuable lesson about using a squirrel bark call.

I've had a pair of Great Horned owls on my property for about twenty years. I see them all the time, as well as several Redtail hawks. My property must also be a favorite migration stop for Peregrine Falcon's. At times there are over 30 of them flying around here. I've counted 18 of them roosting in a tree behind my house. Birds of prey are one of my favorite animals to watch.

The winged lion of the forest.
Skunks are one of their preferred prey, so they are doing some especially good work.
Great photo! Thanks for sharing.

Cool photo - I had one land on a branch just above my blind a couple of years ago. When I moved to get a better look, it just turned to look at me without a care. Stayed for a bit and flew off.

Every evening at our property in East Texas I hear owls hooting at each other. One of the things I really look forward to as the sun sets!

When I was a kid on the farm we had a barn cat named mickey, she was almost always pregnant, had tons of babies, she was a great mouser, but the kittens never stayed around. Just mickey for years. One morning my dad and I were watching the sun rise from the kitchen window, a kitten was walking through the light snow in the yard and suddenly a great snowy owl swooped down and flew off with that kitten, mystery solved!

Great photo! Thanks for sharing. Then I need some! 'Never seen so many skunks. I don't always have a .22 with me. I've got Screech Owls, but haven't spotted a Great Horned yet. 'Course, that doesn't mean they're not there.
