Had plenty of video of this buck leading up to the season.

Saw him this morning early but he didn't present a shot. He was 'dogging' a doe and they both went across the old logging road too fast to even think about shooting.

They went into the woods and never returned.

Couple Does feeding on a small oat patch I planted in a clearing back in the woods late this evening. It was getting pretty late (5:20 pm) and although there was plenty of shooting 'time' left...it starts getting dark faster back in the woods.

I was watching the Does through my binoculars because one of them was 'alerting' in one direction back towards the woods. That told me that 'something' was likely coming. Sure enough I could see a body slipping between the trees and then the buck popped out in the opening only 75 yds. away.

He was completely broadside and had stopped walking for just a couple of seconds to look at the Does. That was all the time I needed to find him in the scope and tap the trigger. The 7mm-08 did its part and now we have venison for sausage and jerky....yummmm!

Deer will usually let you know if something else is approaching, good tip for newer hunters.

Interesting buck. Good job! I'd like a closer look at those antlers.

I've been Deer Hunting for a bit over 50 years and in all that time have never taken a buck that stank as much as this one. His hocks and ALL the way down his rear legs were black with urine. The first thing I did when I got him back to the house was hose him down. You don't want that stuff tainting the meat when skinning them.

The buck nearly filled two small coolers. In the County I hunt I can still take a spike and couple of Does....but will probably wait until my Daughter comes home in January to hunt the muzzleloader season and let Her do the rest of the meat collecting. I want to make a big batch of sausage and Jerky this season.
