No, it’s not a poem. Blinds are ready, feeders are throwing corn, gun is dead on, knives are sharp. I even greased the pulley on the winch, expecting to get one tomorrow. I am ready...let the hunt begin...

And good luck to you all.

I’m prepared to fail another year. Pass on one and regret it the rest of the year.

Kind of a weird one for me. I will miss the opener, and most of the year, which is very unusual. Ive already killed my buck which wouldnt normally stop me from being out there with the guys and with my camera. My Mom has been in poor health lately so Ive pretty much moved in with her and not really going anywhere at all. Tonight between watching Mom and watching All The Pretty Horses and being on this forum I really havent even thought much about opening day. I work so hard getting ready for the season that the actual hunting almost becomes an after thought. Of course, Im a little different, so theres that........

Good luck. We timed it this year just about right. Down to our last 5 packs of ground venison.

Got my presents wrapped.
44.5 grain with 165 gr projectile. I owe a debt of gratitude to my brother for teaching me how to reload and develope this load for my .308.

The big one walked past me this morning. A 9 point with a kicker. Sixty yards max. Might have been a 10, but I couldn’t be sure. Had to tell myself that “wait for a doe, wait for a doe, wait for a doe”. So I didn’t shoot him. Let the grandson have him, if nobody else shoots him.

And here came a nice 8, 15 minutes later. No Doe. Ah, but what a lovely morning. Good coffee. Good book.

Not too much shooting going on around me. Pretty quiet.
