saw t his early wed. mourning before traffic. scratched up area about 20-24 inches across, sand piled up 3-4 inches .flat on top, on top of the pile was scat with hair and small bones. this was canine scratch claw marks way to wide for bobcat. I have hunted for 60 years and never seen this. i have an idea what it was. almost forgot to the side out side the scratch marks was another pile of scat, fresher

They come back and hit the same spot several times and neighboring challengers will hit it too. Urine and scat usually in it or near it. The scratching spot is a visual sign as well as interdigital glands secrete in it. If you had pics, I could tell you for sure but this is a best guess, if you're sure it's not a bobcat.

I am pretty sure it was coyote. claw marks were too wide and thick for cat
