if a stud is not where you want to hang a shoulder mount. What's the best way to hang it on just drywall?

Depending on the weight of the mount, I'm not sure I'd trust drywall by itself.

The instructional above is wrong. If you put the toggle bolt in as shown, you have to remove the machine screw to hang the mount. If you remove the screw, the toggle will fall down inside the wall. Further, hanging a mount with a toggle bolt requires the machine screw head be left visible. Rather tacky, I'd say.

I have used this in drywall and have never had a problem. I use the three nail hanger that supposedly hold 100 pounds.

Yeah, where they added some sort of board, you need another nut so that you can leave the head exposed and still tighten the bolt down.

been using the heavy duty Gorilla Hooks with great success. I think they are rated up to 50 lbs.

Hook n Line offers a good solution.

I've used big ones like this to hang both kudu and waterbuck without issue.

here are some heavier duty ones, holds up to 100 lbs. ... nice thing about these is there is merely 1 tiny hole that is easily covered up if you need to move the hook somewhere else with a little spackling or tooth paste

100 lb Gorilla Hooks

It's what I use on everything except a wall pedestal. Works great.
