My son took his 1st buck with one. No issues.... put some good glass on it and it will be a killing machine!

Any of the 125 grain lead bullets work very well. They are fast enough for good expansion and deep penetration. If you drop down to the 110 grain, the V-max or varmint style bullets will work ok, and expand easy, but the solid copper options work very well for penetration. I run the 125 grain SST or 125 grain HP versions. They work well for pigs and deer. I am making a huge run of about 4000 rounds late this week and early next week of blk out. I just got in a large shipment of bullets.

If the 125 SST works well for pigs, it will work well for deer too. From one of my posts back in April...

2nd one was a decent sized boar. Bullet entered the middle of the shoulder and traveled towards the middle of the neck on the offside. I was surprised that it wasn't a pass through. I peeled the skin back on the opposite side and found the jacket and core in the fat layer just under the hide. He fell where he stood as well. At 300 blk velocities, I was surprised that the bullet fragmented and came apart like it did. I thought this was a tougher bullet than that.

The Barnes factory 110 gr x bullet load has worked well for me and so have 125 sst's handloads. I have used the 110 v-max load but they were neck or head shots so no real test on bullet performance on those. Go to the 300 blkout forum lots of good info there.

I killed quite a few Oklahoma deer with a T/C Encore pistol (12” barrel) in .300 Whisper, which is a close cousin of the .300 Blackout. Chad’s ammo is the ticket in Blackout.

My whole hunting club talked crap bout the 300blk out. I took factory loaded 110 Barnes and dropped 5 deer past 2 years. They leave me alone. I would try to shoot one at 500 yards and expect a good kill shot though.

I run 125 BT out of my 8” and it kills hogs very well 100 yards and in. I’m sure out to 200 yards it would do the same but I’ve never shot one that far.

Barnes Vor-Tx is the best I've found for supers in the 300 BO.

I would not shoot a big buck at 200 yards with one. They lose alot of energy at that distance.......

I have drilled multiple pigs at a feeder at 180 yards with my 300 blk out shooting 125 grain bullets. It will perform very well at 200 yards. At 100 yards, I'm showing 1200 ft lbs or energy, and at 200 yards it's 935 ft lbs. Sure it's lost some velocity and energy, but there's plenty of bullet to make a quality kill. It's only dropping 6 inches at 200 yards. I'm not saying the blk out is a long range round, but it is just fine inside of 200 to 300 yards.

Range Velocity Energy Elev
(yards) (ft/sec) (ft-lbs) (inches)
0 2350 1532.7 ---
50 2215.2 1362 0.01
100 2084.2 1205.6 0
150 1957.7 1063.7 -2.02
200 1836.2 935.8 -6.31
250 1720.1 821.2 -13.18

6 inches at 200 hundred yards is a drop most hunters aren't compensating for.........so the question I have is why? Most big bucks aren't cheap.......

A regular 308 Win drops 3.8" at 200 yards from a 100 yard zero. That's 2.5" more drop than a 308 Win is at 200. Why would you not account for drop? The instant a bullet leaves the muzzle, it's dropping. You have to account for drop on ALL rifle rounds. For me, it's a simple dial up or hold .8 mils in my scope for 200 yards. A 308 is about .5 mils hold at 200. But it's all dropping. If you are not account for bullet drop, then you're missing the target. The hunters I know usually set up their rifles to make shots at longer ranges, and account for drop at all ranges.

I own multiple calibers Chad, .308 being one of them.....so I'm very aware of bullet drop compensation......I don't know of any deer hunters that set up bullet drop for 6 inches at 200 yards......and I know many.....and 6" of bullet drop at 200 yards they NEVER practice or compensate for.....using this set up for big deer at 200 yards is the equivalent of using a screw driver to drive a nail IMO......

I’ll most likely keep it at 100-150 yards

That’s the distances the last 3 bucks have been

I’ll take it a few times, may try it out on a pig at those ranges first

I'm sorry, I don't understand. I hunt. I hunt with a 300 blk out, and I account for about .8 or .9 mils at 200 yards, which is about 6". There are MANY who hunt with a 300 blk out, and would account for that drop. If you hunt with a 300 blk out with a 100 yard zero, the drop at 200 yards is 6". The original comment was "I would not shoot a big buck at 200 yards with one. They lose alot of energy at that distance.......". My reply is the blk out has plenty of energy to kill a buck at 200 yards. And if you make a 200 yard shot, that drop is only 6". If you shoot a 300 blk out and you want to shoot longer than 100 yards, then you account for the drop, which is 6" at 200 yards. Beyond that, I don't understand what you are saying.

If a hunter is shooting a different cartridge, like a 257 Wby running 3600 fps, the drop will be totally different and certainly won't be 6" at 200 yards. Yes, the drop is different than the blk out, but there is still drop. Every hunter MUST account for drop, if they don't, they won't hit there target.

125 sst under 200 yards, no problems and they’re great for kids! Big bullet makes a big hole!
.. and to clarify, 200 yards is what I’m comfortable with..
