People can get hurt going to the blind in the dark. Just a bit of a reminder, you can get hurt out there.

Things just look different in the dark when you're trying to be quiet. Besides stepping in holes and breaking your ankle, you can spook a covey of quail.....that'll scare you to no end. Then coming upon a 300 lb feral hog would do you in for sure. Ever seen what those things can do to a person? There are bobcats and panthers out there in the dark, and things trying to be quiet just attract their attention. Get attacked by one of those and you won't have a chance. One second you're sneaking to the stand, next minute....I don't want to think about it. Then when you get to the stand, in the dark, keep in mind that all these hunting grounds were once hunted by indians long ago. The ghosts of them don't take kindly to people in their hunting grounds.....weird things can happen. Then you'll probably fall asleep in the stand and wake up when a snake comes in through the blind window. You know they're there, just looking for you. What if they climb up your pant leg? Then that old chair you have just might have a black widow spider in it. Ever seen what those things do to rot human flesh? If I were you, it'd be safer to stay home and let me have your hunting spot. You can go home and tell the story and no one would be the wiser.

I stepped on a large chicken snake once while walking in the dark. It was the only time in my life that I wished I could get my feet over my head.

You forgot a momma coon on the tank bank. Dam near needed to go back to the house and change. She was PISSED!

Don’t forget about those damn squirrels that sound like big foot is right behind you.

Never ever thought a covey of quail would scare me. That is until you disrupt one in the dark after walking 400-500 yards to get in your blind in what was pitch black. I am certain these quail were different than most. For me to get that scared, they must have had super quail strength with huge teeth and I am sure they were extremely mean if not plain ol'' ferocious. There is just no other way to explain it.

Then there's running into a big spider web. I can do a week's worth of aerobics right then and there.

I walked into a herd of bedded pigs one morning trying to get to the stand without using a flash light,, I’ll never walk in the dark without using a light again,, I’m scanning the woods now walking, I was scared to death and went up a tree like a squirrel on crack after a Slipknot concert.. it was not a fun experience I can guarantee you that!!!

LOL, just wait until you are dragging a dead pig out on a dark night in waist high grass and the covey doesn't flush until you are right in the middle of them. The sound of the covey flushing is one thing, but wait until a couple of them hit you in flight in the dark trying to get away. Underwear were done for after that.

Only thing that I'm scared of is bumping a SKUNK.

Wait until someone releases their bunch of emus and ostriches into the wild without your knowledge. Then on your way you to the stand you hear another 2 legged creature keeping pace with you. You can't see it until you get about 20 yards out of the brush. Now your making a mad dash for the blind and its pace has also picked up. He was only thinking your were going to feed him.

When I used to hunt South Texas, covey of quail would scare the crap out of me.

Many years ago I took my exwife with me to the stand. It was pitch dark and she was scared of the dark like no one I'd ever met in my life. She tripped over a mesquite stab and spooked a pack of Javelina camped out by my hog trap. They ran in front of her, behind her, between her legs. She just about pissed herself. I even told her ahead of time there might be a family of Javelina by my hog trap. Maybe one of the funniest things I've seen in my life. It took her days to get over it and I liked to never got her in the stand. When I did get her in the stand she would not turn off the flash light until it got daylite

Something she'll never forget, I'm sure. I had a small pig run between my legs hog doggin' one night. I just happened to be standing over a trail in thick brush while the dogs were getting after them. Little sucker ran right between my legs with a dog in pursuit, happened fast. I had to check and make sure my valuables were still there.

Little girl ghosts is what scares me.

Was climbing ladder to blind in San Saba opening morning several years ago and opened door to blind with my head at just above floor level. Ring-tailed cat exited blind at high rate of speed using my camo cap as a launching pad. I managed to hang on to ladder but heart never was the same that morning.

Stanley was headed to blind in South Texas,. When he grabbed the ladder to the ten foot stand, the blind came alive. The door flung open and "someone" jumped, to the ground and ran into the brush never to be seen again. When Stan composed hisself, he got up to the floor of the blind, shined his light in there only to see shoes and shirt.

had a coon almost crawl in my lap into the stand a few weeks ago...

4 of us Elk hunting Northern Arizona and walking in during the dark with flash lights. We walked into a herd of resting or sleeping elk. They exploded like a covey of quail bumping into trees. It lasted less than 5 seconds which is a long time. When it was over none of us had been hit. One of us had to return to camp due to wetting his pants. That was me.

Several times during recent years I've walked into a bunch of hogs at night with a flashlight. Never been hit by them but it gets my attention.
