270 or 308 which ever rifle I pick up first in the morning. Either one will get the job done without a problem!

I'll have both a 308 and a 300 WM on the kitchen table ready to go. Under 250 yards he gets a 165 sierra GK out of the 308, over 250 he gets a 180 Sierra GK through the ribs from the 300.
308 is dead on at 200
300 is dead on at a touch over 300
Both shoot same hole 5 shot groups at 200 and the 300 shoots sub 1" at 300.....nasty accurate loads my son has built for them both.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

My opening day was a month ago......been using my 6.5 CMs because they are flat shooting, accurate and DRT big bucks and hogs with little felt recoil.......

Opening day I will be using the .308, but my old .30-06 will make an appearance sometime this season.
I have a deer problem on my hog lease!!!

This could of been an interesting poll if you had included 3006. Just admit your mistake and start over with a new one.

Can someone please explain the difference between cartridge and caliber to the OP? I won't put the .270 cartridge in my 30.06 caliber even if it fits.

Depends on the stand, but more than likely my 7mm WSM. If it's a shorter reached shot, probably Shorty the 6.5creed.

Can someone please explain the difference between cartridge and caliber to the OP? . I will be using .264 or .357 calibers. Can't say I've ever had someone ask what "cartridge" rifles I own. Reminds me of the those who take issue with the term "hot water heater". Yes, water that's already hot requires periodic heating to maintain the set temperature. The only time it becomes a "water heater" is when it's first turned on.

To the contrary, I simply grabbed the most current list of popular deer calibers that I could find in an effort to avoid my own personal bias. As I mentioned earlier, it was the author of list that failed to mention the 30-06. Who knows, like myself who doesn't own a 30-06, perhaps that was the reason for his oversight as well. But I did make sure his list included the 6.5 Creedmoor to keep all its worshipers happy. God forbid I not include that one and make someone start foaming at the mouth with rage. As it stands now, only one hunter in ten will be carrying one of these to the woods on Saturday. Source
