Yes I have had it that long. Don't remember for sure , but probably bought it when I was a teenager around the same time I bought a tape caller from Mr. Stewart at a gunshow. Don't use it much these days, but it still works.

Purty neat. My favorite call back in my younger days was a squeaker call. Man you wouldn't believe the things that would come to that call, especially hawks.

Now that's pretty cool.

Now that's a night hunting antique. I am guessing that light was built in the late 50's or early 60's. When Brinkmann came out with the Q Beam, that made everything else obsolete.

Nice light back in the day

I was about 7 years old when I went night hunting with my Uncle Pat outside of Ranger TX. We used carbide lamps attached to our hats. We just walked through the bottoms looking for eyes in the tree's, they worked surprisingly well. I was caring my Pop's old Winchester model 61 with a flip up tang peep sight. I got a Ringtail and a Coon that night. I believe they were actually miners lamps he had worn when he worked the coal mines in Thurber. My great grandfather worked there also.

Great story. I grew up coon hunting with hounds and we used the carbide lights as well because that weren't so bright that the coons wouldn't look at them. I must admit that I was not a huge fan of them, thank God for technology.

I was not quite old enough for using the cabide lights though I had considered getting one back in the day just because I am sure I had grandfathers that used them. Been cleaning out my workshop and throwing away or selling old obsolete hunting gear. Though I kept the old burnham brothers light I did throw away my old Nite Light set up. The big gel cell and spare battery are too heavy compared to today's lights and it did not hold a charge very long anymore. The replacement battery for those old lights last I looked was insanely expensive compared to cheaper technologically better lights today. The hardhat liner had gotten stiff and would be uncomfortable to wear anymore. And I have not had Walker Hounds for many years now. It was time to trash it. Kinda sad to let it go. I miss those night hunts with my hounds. Hwyman, I probaby carried my grandfather's Winchester 63 more often than not on those nights though a model 61 was passed down to me as well.

Those were the Good Old Days. I never had one of the Night Lites as I was never a big fan of the hard hats and surely not a fan of the big batteries. Since I hunted South Texas and the Hill Country and never along the rivers, trees weren't that tall and a flashlight would work. I still have hounds but rarely hunt in the dark as I prefer to be out in the mornings and make my dogs trail as most tracks were made in the night. I do use the small lightweight headlamps when collaring dogs in the darkness as I like to have my hands free.

I grew up and went to school in Austin...but hunted all over the Hill Country. My best friend and I spent a lot of time at the Burnham Bros. store in Marble Falls and always enjoyed talking with them. They were a wealth of knowledge and freely shared hunting and calling 'tips' with anyone interested. In the early 70' they came out with a headlamp that used a common small 9volt battery. It actually threw a pretty good light....plenty for coons in the not very tall trees along creeks and rivers.

It had a red lens that you could snap on if you wanted. It swiveled up and down so you could point it wherever needed. Very innovative for the time. We used the heck out of those. I used to love to go up to that store and hang out. We had a Lake House on Travis so it was just few more miles up 1431 to Marble Falls. The Good Old Days for sure.

Fur prices in the mid 70's had shot way up and it was good way for a couple young guys in college to make some beer/girl dating money. Fun, kept us out of trouble and profitable.

I was at SWTSU from 71-75 and drove back and forth to the ranch every weekend to work and hunt. Hides had value back then and we would carry them to a buyer in New Braunfels on Sunday evenings.
We still have a lot of folks that come by the store to visit and talk hunting, especially in deer season.

Yep, the good Ol Days. I took a Animal Husbandry class at SWTSU in '73, was living in Austin and drove to San Marcos for that one class. As you say....hides had value back then. My best friend and I made pretty good Girl/Beer money while in college trapping/calling Coons, Fox and Bobcat back then. Sold them to an outfit out on 1431.

World has changed a lot since then and all the areas we used to hunt are covered up with houses now.
