Anybody ever get to the point where things are so busy you just say the hell with hunting? Between night shift as a police officer and working 7 days a week as a Realtor, not to mention house chores and a 15 month old boy, I just have had zero desire to go hunt. This may very well be the first year since I was 12 that I haven’t hunted. Other than the coyotes and pigs I chase a few times a year with my cousins, I doubt I get into the woods for game animals.

More or less where I’ve been for the past three years. Working a couple hundred miles from home all but destroyed my discretionary time. Things around the house, working on my shop, time with family, everything has been effected.
Hunting just isn’t high enough on my list compared to other “priorities” for what little free time I have.
Don’t see it changing any time soon. Still try to go at least once a year with friends....

Happens. When I had two sons too young to go and was living in a state where we were away from family and hunting friends I missed about 5 years of hunting.

I'm about to be 78 and the desire to kill a deer is waning or gone. I only hunt my own land South of Bowie but have hunted most of the Western States and Africa. Too old to challenge the out of State mountains and too cheap to pay the price to go back to Africa. I've done it all or enough. Knees, back, and feet are shot and hate to go through more surgeries. If I see a trophy buck at a feeder I just admire it. I don't care for venison anyway.
Pigs are an exception. I shot one yesterday. It ran away and I spent less than 5 minutes looking for it. I have pigs everywhere and wish the coyotes would work harder. I've told the Grandsons to leave the coyotes alone. They're on our side.
But, I still enjoy sitting in the woods with a rifle.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

I've quit quite a few times over the years. Work, bass fishing, buiding a new house, elbow surgery, divorce you name it kept me from hunting some years. Sometimes for several years. I'm 64 and been lucky enough to hunt from Africa to Alaska and in between. I'm putting way more into hunting than I get out. Broke a bone in my foot moving a tripod in early Aug., dang tripod leg fell on my foot still walking with a limp.
Unless I can find a really good place I do not have to drive a demolition derby across a metroplex to get to I may hang up my deer hunting.
If it wasn't for food plots and cell cams I'd be doing something else.
Thanks, Billy

Not me. I'm still as passionate about getting to the outdoors as I ever was. Life is too short not to make time to do what you enjoy.

Yes sir Been there and done that when I had a daughter in band at Steele and then a son playing ball for 4 years. It was a very busy 7 years for us and I couldn't see spending money on a lease when we were going to HSFB games well in to December all 7 years (37 playoff games in 7 season is a bunch of missed hunting weekends lol). Don't worry, things will calm down soon and all I can tell you is to enjoy every moment with those kiddos because it goes by way too fast.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Life gets in everyone's way. I just do what I can and try to, unobtrusively, let the family know that I'm here to take them hunting, IF they so desire. 'Problem is, hunting isn't something that can be taught in one weekend in one year. With the speed and nature of our society now, if it can't be learned on a YouTube video (15 minutes max), it's often discarded. You're providing for your family and protecting the public. You obviously have enough on your plate right now. The outdoors will be there when you're ready.

I was there when my boy was that age. Hunting took a back seat. Here's what I did. I grabbed a break open 20 gauge and my boy and went to public land on the north end of lavon. We'd walk around until he got tired, and I'd shoot rabbits and squirrels. Great memories, and he'd even eat the squirrel and rabbit stew that we made.

I will do whatever I have to, to be able to go hunting and fishing. My whole life I've worked and planned to be able to do the things I love.

I guess I am lucky in that I have never been to busy to go hunting....been that way since I was very young. Time I spent hunting might have been limited but I always went hunting.

When I was younger my career and kids got in the way so I stopped for awhile. I was usually in between leases anyway it seemed. Ive been in position for awhile now that I put way too much into it and get way too much out of it to think about not hunting.

If we didn't hunt for a year I would have to really rethink our meals for the week/year. We shoot 10+ deer a year between my parents myself and my brother and his wife. We eat venison in place of most stuff.

I'm kind of in the same boat - so much going on and so much to do that public land duck hunting just doesn't sound much fun this year. Make take the year off. I think not even shooting a single dove on our place didn't help.

Hunting is a big part of my life. Really the only non-work thing that I enjoy. Although now its just as much about being out there, disconnecting from the Hustle of life and spending time with friends as it is about the kill.
I've not been in a position where I can drop everything and go every weekend but I will try to go on day trips a few days a week and try and go on one long hunt a few times a year.
As long as the desire is there and I have the means I will be going. Spent most of my childhood and teenage years only getting to go a few times a year or not at all and when I reached adulthood I made it a priority to try and make it out as much as I want to.
Hunting, to me, is as much a Lifestyle as it is a hobby
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
