Anyone know if (in Texas) the 'Rough Green' breeds in the fall in addition to the spring when they are normally breeding? The reason I ask is: I've seen probably 10 of these in just the last month on my property. Happening upon them while out doing various chores, not really looking for them. They seem to be moving a lot right now. They are a common snake here....but I don't normally see this many.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

They only breed once a year in the spring. They are just active looking for food before it starts getting into winter.

As far as I know, no. That doesn’t mean with the right weather and an early spring breeding session that it can’t happen from time to time. But it’s not typical.

They are also very common at my home in Inez, TX. Love to handle them then let them go. They are a good example of why it's wrong to kill "every" snake. They are extremely gentle and really neat creatures.

how did you get the pics of that Sasquatch holding that one? Yeah, I have to be careful walking through the woods. Besides being a 'hairy' person.....I'm 6'5 and 250 lbs. (not as big as a Squatch) but when viewed through a scope....who knows right? I'm cognizant NOT to use a lumbering gait and I whistle lot.

They only breed once a year in the spring. They are just active looking for food before it starts getting into winter. I found this source suggesting that they 'might' breed again in the fall, but I agree with your assessment that it wouldn't be happening in mass and they are likely just moving more in search of food. We have mild winters 'typically' here in Deep East Texas but all reptiles are affected by cooler weather....so probably 'prepare' as best they can. https://snake-facts.weebly.com/rough-green-snake.htmlReproduction"The rough green snake breeding season occurs in spring, but sometimes they breed again in the fall."

When I was a kid I caught a green snake that I kept for a few weeks in an aquarium. It would eat grasshoppers and crickets out of my hand.

The only thing I could get mine to eat was crickets. And it was an ESCAPE ARTIST. My mom was NOT pleased...
