This is my daughter's second year of deer hunting and she is in love with it. She has been helping me do land management, fill feeders, check cameras, and deciding what deer to chase after. We have been watching this buck for 3 years now and decided it was the one for her to go after. We ran cameras all over the ranch to figure out his home territory. Once we figured it out we started feeding alfalfa in that area and moved a corn feeder there as well. It worked, he got very comfortable. We watched him over the past few weeks and she was stoked for Saturday morning to get here. He almost no showed and last minute he came in to hit the fresh bales of alfalfa I put under some pecan trees. She began shaking and getting freeked out. It took a good 5 minutes to talk her down to make the shot. She is shooting a Winchester model 70 featherweight youth in .243. It was a 65 yard shot broadside. The shot hit its mark and the deer jumped and bolted. She thought she missed. I new it was spot on. The deer ran 30 yards, stopped and tipped over dead. She then lost her mind!! I am so happy for her. She couldn't hold the deer up for good pics so we hung it up in the cold weather, after dressing it, for a few hours until it stiffened up enough to set back out for a good picture. I am glad we did because the pics turned out great. The deer is a 6 year old brute. With a 14.5 inch inside spread. He even has a 5 inch kicker hanging straight back over his neck. I have been calling this deer Tallboy, can you tell why? My daughter is 11, it may be a few years to beat this one! thanks for looking, John ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/11/full-31405-261779-sam_deer_1.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/11/full-31405-261780-sam_deer_2.jpg)

Great! Great buck and great pics as well. It really helps to let them stiffen so their heads can be held up. Also keeps the neck from just scrunching down into the body. Much more natural look. Beautiful picture. Appreciate the story. Its great you had her be a part of the entire experience instead of just showing up to pull the trigger. Congrats.

Beautiful buck and congratulations to the little lady! Good on you Dad for using your noggin' to stiffen up the deer for pictures. I wouldn't have thought of that. Way to go. And regarding 40 - cheer the hell up! It gets a lot worse.
