A lease buddy thinks this deer is old and I think it’s a younger buck. Best pics I can find, but what do you think?

Define "young"...last pic he looks the oldest out of those 3. If temp is correct then he may be fluffed up a bit.

I’m certainly no expert but would say 2.5, maybe 3.5 but doubt it....needs a few years in my book.

Have to agree with your lease buddy. Short front end shoulder blades sticking up above his back.

My buddy said his face is short and looks old. I’m saying 2.5-3.5 he thinks the deer is 4.5-5.5.

He looks 3.5 to me. No pot belly, or sway back. The later looks like it might be starting.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

The second pic he has the head profile of an mature buck. The belly extend past the flank and not up into it also. My first guess when I saw the pics was he was mature. He has a lot of staining on his hocks also. Night time B&W photos can be difficult to pinpoint ages from on a buck like this one. He may look different in the daytime or in person also.

You'll be able to tell better when you see it on the hoof and how it interacts with others.

He looks 3 to me in 2 of the 3 pics.

I don't see anything definite to say this deer is post mature and if he is not post mature then I have to think he is 3.5.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
