A good friend of mine reported seeing several bucks chasing does earlier today in Houston County. This should make for some great opportunities for the kids who hunt this weekend.

Good luck to all of them.

Bucks have been 'checking' does on my property for a couple of weeks. Pretty typical for this time of year to see some bucks pestering does but I don't think we are in anything but the first stages of pre-rut. However, this IS an opportune time to see and harvest bucks.

As an aside: An often overlooked time to hunt is actually post rut (muzzleloader season). I see some of the best bucks of the year then as they turn their attention to food sources and putting some weight back on.

So....get the kids out then too.
