That is a ridiculous per vehicle cost if there is no ballistic protection. I could understand it at half the price

I guess that would be OK for places where you aren't getting shot at.

It's a limited number of vehicles for 'Forcible Entry Operations' that means mostly Special Ops and Airborne type seize and hold missions.

A four door Silverado 2500 4WD would do just as good for way the hell less money.

It might be, but I bet itā€™s got a lot of nifty features that arenā€™t cheap.

"Our expeditionary ISV is a light and agile all-terrain troop carrier, which is intended to transport a nine-soldier infantry squad, moving throughout the battlefield," David Albritton, president of GM Defense told an audience today at a delivery ceremony.

The ISV, based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, is designed to be air-droppable by C-130 Hercules or C-17 Globemaster aircraft, sling-loaded by a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter or internally carried by CH-47 Chinook helicopter.

It features 35-inch tires, impact-absorbing suspension, electronic power steering, and antilock brakes, according to GM officials. The ISV also has a custom rollover protection system designed to provide overhead protection for the four soldiers in the back of the vehicle.

The ISV concept emerged in 2015 when Army officials at the Maneuver Warfare Conference at Fort Benning, Georgia, stressed that light infantry units needed an ultra-light combat vehicle for forced-entry operations.

GM Defense and Ricardo competed against teams from Flyer Defense LLC and Oshkosh Defense LLC, as well as SAIC and Polaris Inc., in the initial rapid-prototyping phase of the effort in 2019.

The ISV is the latest Army effort to equip troops with modernized battlefield transport. In 2015, the service selected Oshkosh to build the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, a joint Army-Marine Corps program to replace the Cold War-era Humvee. But the Army has since slowed its fielding plan for JLTV as part of an effort to shave billions of dollars off of existing programs to fund future modernization efforts.

"This platform will be a game-changer for the infantry brigade combat teams ... and was designed to move across restricted terrain, allowing soldiers to close on an objective with less fatigue and greater readiness," said Michael Sprang, Project Manager for the Joint Program Office, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle.

The first four production In addition to the JLTV, Spring's office oversees other vehicle programs, such as the Humvee and the new ISV.
ISV vehicles will go to 1st BCT, 82nd Airborne Division for further testing, Army officials have said.

GM is slated to deliver 649 ISVs to the Army by fiscal 2024. Before that happens, the Army will conduct an operational test and evaluation phase next year to assess the vehicle's "operational relevance and capability," Steve Herrick, product lead for Ground Mobility Vehicles in the Joint Program Office, JLTV.

If all goes well, the Army will equip 11 IBCTs with 59 ISVs each by fiscal 2024, Herrick said.

Just think of all of the money they saved by not having put in an air conditioner.
They have some nifty videos of them driving around out in the dirt, dust everywhere, including inside.
I hope they work well for the purpose they were made for, they look cool and stout.

I guess saying that there were times I was glad to just be able to squeeze into the back of a duce-and-a-half makes me sound like an old guy.

It should have suspended seats instead of just bolting them to the floor.

One vehicle proving that the millions of others are reliable? No, itā€™s absolutely not nearly good enough. Iā€™d also wager good money you arenā€™t driving it like they will. Try again.

You really think they're dropping it without a chute? You can drop anything almost so this is a ridiculous statement. The only things they did were change the crew layout, strengthen the frame, change the suspension, and put a multipurpose cage/bar in it to help with roll-overs and also give something to strap to a helo. Again, how is this worth over $350k?

I do completely agree with the resilience point. It needs to not break, start the first time, etc., and so that is the consolation I gave to paying $170k for a vehicle versus the $80k it should cost (and I thought that was a gift, apparently not)

Even a dirt farmer in a third world country can figure out how to build an explosive device to cut a hole in an MRAP and kill the passengers. Add to that, they have failed miserably to decrease the weight of a combat load for the infantryman, and the ā€œreal worldā€ combat load I donā€™t think has ever been published but itā€™s much worse. I think this will make a great patrol vehicle. It would be awesome to have a fast, agile vehicle with real off road capability to carry some of your [censored] around and make for easier and faster casevac.

Yes they will break it. They break everything. That is the nature of the beast.
