So I saw on social media today that boss shotgun shells is doing a little promo where you buy some limited edition paper hulls and they are donating $50 towards the federal duck stamp. I guess by law 98% of the money raised by the stamps goes towards conservation.

Just out of curiosity how many stamps do yall normally buy?

Do you think the federal duck stamp cost should increase from $25?

Its not like $25 does much these days. I personally would be ok spending $100 for the duck stamp, maybe even more if I saw the states doing more with the money raised. I currently already buy 2 stamps every year. 1 to put on my license and 1 to put in the safe for my collection. Im not a rich man, dont even make 6 figures, so I don't want to hear any duck hunting will just turn into an elite sport only for the rich if you increase the cost of the federal stamp bs.

So do you think enough is being done in the conservation department and woild you be willing to pony up more money so more can/could be done?

I buy a duck stamp every year regardless if I hunt ducks or not. Same with a supercombo and I rarely fish public waters nor do I archery hunt. Do the same for my wife. Make a duck stamp $100 and I’ll stop buying one. Same if license fees cost 4x more. I’m happy paying a reasonable cost for things I don’t use because the money goes to a good cause (generally). Just my .02 cents but the fact we have a federal duck stamp to begin with is a good thing.

I hear what your saying KR.

I'd like to see a chart of how much license have increased over the years and if it's kept up with inflation. Like I said $25 doesn't go very far these days. It damn sure doesn't go far for buying or improving land for conservation. Is $100 alot more money than the current $25? sure is and it would make alot of people take a step back. But I'd make the same argument that $100 these days still doesn't go very far in today's society.

I guess when I first saw what boss was doing it just kinda struck me and made me reflect on if I was doing enough. I had my own kinda selfish reasons of why I bought 2 stamps. But will probably buy 4 or 5 going forward.

I say keep it cheap. Buying extra stamps or making donations is honorable. The high school and college kids are the future of the sport. For a lot of that age group money is tight. As for Boss, their business is directly tied to hunting waterfowl. Financially it’s in their best interest to invest in waterfowl habitat and conservation.

No 25 ain't much but 25x 1.5 million adds up pretty quick.

If the duck stamp goes up in cost a lot of people will hunt without one.

True but its ridiculous what the youth pays to play sports these days. If they want to duck hunt their parents will pony up the money for them.

If your a waterfowler and care about the sport i think its in all our best interest to do what we can.

Which id be ok with a very steep federal stamp being required by guides/outfitters that profit from waterfowl hunts. Like a $2,500 to $5k yearly stamp they have to purchase to be a guide. Of course all proceeds go towards conservation.

I also buy a super combo license each year, and a Federal Duck Stamp. I don't always have the need for both of these, but the money is for a good cause. I like your idea of buying more than one stamp. However, raising the price 4X would most likely lead to a sales decrease, and bring in less total revenue. Another idea is to urge non-hunters to buy a duck stamp, if they would like to support wildlife. The duck stamp is also a pass to visit a National Wildlife Refuge, without paying an entrance fee. How about encouraging duck hunters to join Ducks Unlimited? I have not been a member for many years, but am joining today just because I read your post.

We always go to the DU banquets. It includes a membership and I’ve won some cool stuff in their auctions.

I’m in the same boat KR. Even have the wife buy super combo and duck stamp, even though neither one of us duck hunt, and haven’t fished for a few years.

I have two comments:
1-kids playing sports has zero to do with buying duck stamps.
2-We completely disagree on parenting. They should be paying for their own recreational activities by then. At that age the process of popping them off the tit should be pretty far along.

I won’t donate 1 penny to this state. What on earth are they going to do with it? I haven’t looked very hard, but I don’t know of 1 area that is managed for waterfowl in this state.

Managed as in water controlled, food planted, refuge space, and adequate hunting around it, like other states do.

The duck stamp is a federal issue, not state. The state gets their money for migratory birds when you buy the super combo.

I personally would still buy the ducks stamp if the price was increased to $100 but that is only because I duck hunt A LOT, so it would still be worth it to me. I think the average duck hunter probably only hunts a couple times a year and at that price increase they might just stop hunting them all together. I also think they'd lose a lot of revenue from the people that buy the stamp just to help with conservation even thought they aren't duck hunters. I think a more realistic idea would be something more like what Brother Phil suggested where they could target the non hunting crowd with entrance into a park or something along those lines. I am in my 20's and have introduced several friends and family members to the awesomeness that is duck hunting and I guarantee not a single one of them would've even started going if they had to dish out $100 instead of $25 for their stamp.

I think going to $100 would keep folks from buying the stamp. I'm okay with an increase but not that steep.

I think hunting licenses should not be needed this year in Texas. I mean you don't have to renew your drivers license, get your car inspected or registered etc due to the deadly corona virus. Why should a hunting license be any different?

Um, you are wrong about this.
You DO still have to renew DLs, Auto registrations and inspections. You just won't be fined if the original deadline passes and you couldn't take care of it because of COVID related issues.

I have a Lifetime Combo License. Since 1991 all I have had to pay for is the Fed Duck stamp. There is an eventual breaking point, just not sure where yet.
The $100.00 thing would be counter productive. Too many people wouldn't pay it and the lost revenue would start to hurt the purpose for which it was originally intended.

no sir, he is dead spot on. I have spent the last 7 months quarantined and will not risk my safety for a hunting license from some box store full of possible COVID carriers.

That's hard to get around as an excuse when they offer online purchasing.
