Ok, can some one explain to this dummy, just what is a slip joint knife? I have heard the term several times but cannot figure out exactly what is meant. Thanks Daniel

A slipjoint knife is one of the most ubiquitous types of pocketknives. A slipjoint knife consists of a handle with one or more folding blades. These blades are held in position by a strong "backspring" which biases them towards the open and closed position (that is the spring tries to hold the blade closed until it has been pulled past a 90 degree arc from the handle, when the spring force reverses and the blade is inclined to spring to the open position - or at least resists closing once open

When you use a word like ubiquitous to explain something, you really aren't explaining something.

Slipjoint has a backspring, and no lock. Other types of folding knives (lockbacks, liner locks, etc) aren't typically called slipjoints.

Buck makes all kinds of knives 1: I highly doubt it is a fixed blade in his pocket. 2: if it was a lockback or liner lock, I would assume that would be mentioned So that pretty well leaves a slip joint like a trapper, stockman, sod buster etc. Or have you been feeling around in his pocket to offer more information??

If someone doesn't know what a slipjoint is then they very well could have any style folder. While you are wizarding, mind telling us the winning lotto numbers or something
