Just arrowed a doe a little behind the rib cage. It’s been 1 1/2 hours to let her die off. The arrow smells bad. Anyone with a dog that can help me locate her would be greatly appreciated.

If you don’t think you caught liver, you might leave her overnight

Even with liver I would wait 4 hrs minimum. As cold as it is I would wait at least 8 hrs to start looking. I hate to wait but on a shot like that you jump her and your chances of finding her go way down. A good dog can find her but may not be able to hold or bay her if you do not give the doe some time to bed up and get stiff in this cold.

I definitely got the stomach. Doe just walked off slowly.

I regret touching the arrow bare handed afterwards.

Get down wind and start sniffing. I found my buddy's deer that way. We call him "Funk Master" now.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I low-crawled thru 300 yards of crap. Not a trace. Managed to stand within 10 yards of 5 does without my bow. That was another bummer. Freezing my testies off now.

Don't give up. She deserved to be found.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

Give it a honest effort. That’s all you can do. Waiting till morning would be my choice since you know the shot wasnt good.

Hopefully you had luck, worst thing you can do in this instance is going looking for her early because you will just be constantly pushing her farther and farther away. You want her to lay down near by and die. Best thing would be to of waited till this morning to look. Unfortunalty on our place we can't wait that long because the coyotes get on em so fast, but we have a dog now and she helps a lot.

So I searched an area of 450x500 yards. Found some coyote dens, numerous coon holes, and my next oak dining room table and fireplace mantle.

The buzzers were on the coyote I killed prior. No deer.

Lesson learned.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I f'n hate bow hunting. Only do it because Collin County doesn't allow rifle for deer. I could kill pigs with a damn M240 though.

If you don't like Bow Hunting, then why do it? I understand that Collin County is Archery only, but you could always use a crossbow (during rifle season - yes I know you can't use one during archery in collin county)

I love hunting, specially when I have access to 400 acres 12 mins from home. I just hate bow hunting because it’s always hard work compared to rifle hunts. I means it’s bad enough I have to make the long drive to and from the lease, then chase a deer hundreds of yards when I do arrow it, and even more when they jump my arrow cause I won’t spend big money a serious rig until I kill this 16-point on the property.
