Yes, deer are hiding in pinyon juniper al day, and coming out in cholla flats to feed and go to water

Good pictures Reminds me of hunting outside of Cotulla, to many things either Stick you, bite ya or sting ya. Had to look it up, looks like a tall Bull Nettle plant. Agreed....only thing worse is Alaska Devils Club.

Those are great pics! I’d hate to run into those at night also!
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

I was hunting a day lease some years back that had prickly pear with HUGE spines. Like three inches long. My boots protected me from the ones I didn't see . . . until I remembered I had left my binoculars back at the blind after I'd changed back into tennis shoes for the drive. Yep. Drove one of those big spines into my big toe right at the quick of the nail. THAT was an experience I don't want to repeat.

When I was younger I was doing some spot and stalk on a turkey around Coleman. As I was easing into position I had shuffled a little farther than I thought and when I dropped down I sat on a dang prickly pear. It was big, maybe 8 leafs, but that didn’t matter to my [censored] and thighs.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

On the last lease, north of Sanderson, as long as I watched my step, I enjoyed seeing 5 or more different types of cactus in just about any 20 yard circle. The first year there was the right amount of rain at the right time and they all bloomed in July. The Chihuahuan desert was beautiful.

Middle of December 1984, outside of Freer. I shot a medium 7 point grazing on a sendero about 250 yds away (Rem 700 BDL 7mm Rem mag 150gr). Knew I hit him because I saw him jump and kick as he went into the brush. I waited a little bit then walked to the spot where I hit him and started looking. Took a few minutes to find him 15 feet off the sendero smack in the middle of a big patch of prickly pear. It sucked trying to get him out of there.

Yeah, and the dog pear around Sanderson is the worst stuff I have ever encountered. You are SO RIGHT, especially when hunting with dogs... Adios, Gary

Hunting a 12B-West early mule deer. Lots of deer, lots of little bucks. Tough year here so far, no rain since March, monsoons didn’t show, and two big fires!!!

I am glad we don't have a lot of Cactus around here. There is only one species I know of close to us and they only grow on steep south facing slopes. They are small, only a few inches tall and only in small patches and in places few go. But wow are the beautiful when the bloom I found another species in the south of the province. It is also small and beautiful when it blooms. I had photos of it in bloom as well but I can't find them now.
Do for yourself as much as you can, eat what nature provides as much as you can. This is the key to sleeping well and living long.
