I’m 20 y/o (5’8-165) and wanting to get into compound bow hunting, 95% of the time I’ll be hunting hogs and turkey, the occasional deer given the opportunity on public land.
Not looking for anything crazy, just a lightweight and reliable setup for a lot of practice and mobile hunting.
Any input about good beginner brands, models, etc. would be greatly appreciated!!

Go to a good reputable bow shop and look at several different kinds of bows let them fit you to the bow, get something that feel good to you.

I’m a big fan of diamond bows for beginning archers. Both my boys shoot the diamond infinity edge pro.
Fully set up it’s like $450 and is a smooth shooting, quick bow that is very forgiving.
Great bow to get your feet wet with and will certainly be fine for deer, turkey and hogs.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Agree and I have sold them to elk hunters wanting a light weight bow for the mountain hunting, and others to hunters going to Africa for hunters wanting a second bow in case something happened to their main bow. One said he hunted with it on days walking due to its lighter weight and handling than his Mathews he took for his main bow. He got his Kudu with the Diamond. With an IBO of 310 FPS they are rated faster than any bows made before I think 1998.

I agree with above. I had a diamond for many years. Very forgiving and great bow to learn on.

I wouldn't buy used, depending on what you get you may not be able to adjust to your correct draw length or will have to spend extra to have it adjusted to your draw. It all depends on what you want to spend. But diamond is a nice brand without breaking the bank

Go to a few archery shops if you can and shoot as many different brands as you can get your hands on. A lot of good bows out there

I'm in Lbk too. Good guys at Trader Bows. I just bought a new bow from them. That looks like a decent starter bow. Great price for everything. I've also heard Mission is a great starter brand... made by Mathews.
