Anyone still using those dinosaur flat based spitzers like interlocks, hot-cors, core-lockts, etc?
They always seems to work good 20 years ago.
I picked up some 180 flat based interlocks recently and they shot outstanding.

Yep, I do. This year I discovered that a Distributor, Black Hills Shooters Supply, has the Core-Lokts back in production and is selling them through their dealers. I'm a cast bullet shooter, but I bought quantities of my favorites such as the 200-grain RN for my 35 Rem M600. Remington also had a bullet that I really liked with for my 25-20 Win. Bought a bunch of them as well.

I do! although I’m flat out amazed every time a deer, elk or antelope falls down when I hit it with an decrepit old phart flat base. Don’t they know they are only supposed to only go down when they are hit with the latest and greatest boat tailed all copper ballistic tipped projectile! I guess they are just taking pity on my ignorance LOL

I have one load using a 110 grain sierra prohunter which is a flat base cup and core soft point. It is a reduced load for my 270 win but is very effective.

Does a $.25, Speer .308", 150 grain Gold Dot count? If so, then yes. I'm running these in my 16" 308 Win as my main hunting bullet. My other "cheap" choice is 168 ELD-M that I get for less than the Speer GD.

I shot 130 grain Core-Lokt ammo in my .270 Win until I sold it this year. Don’t know why so many hate on that bullet. Killed a ton of deer and pronghorn with it over the last 30 years, from zero yards (literally under my stand) to 350 yards (Wyoming pronghorn). Always did the job.

I cast my own buckshot and slugs from wheelweights, that is about as cheap as it gets lol.
I do splurge on Nosler Ballistic Tips for my centerfire rifles. I have killed a bunch of deer with the humble Remington Corelokt over the years, in factory ammo and handloads, with very rarely a second shot needed.

I use 130 gr Speer HotCore FBSP in my .270 Win. Never heard a complaint from a deer in 40 years of hunting. As a matter of fact, I've never heard a peep out of any of 'em.

I run the Speer 120 gr SP in my 25-06. But it is a boattail.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I never had an issue with Core-Lokt bullet performance on game. When they started patterning like buckshot is when I quit using Rem factory ammo.

Depends on how cheap "cheap" is.
I have had great luck with game kings in just about everything, but since they're 40 cents a bullet now I've started looking at other options.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I'm reloading Hornady Interlock 150 grain SP flat based bullets for my .308, and 110 grain SP for my 300 Blackout. There might be cheaper bullets, but not by much. At the distances I'm shooting (less than 150 yards) they work fine.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

I like to shoot good bullets. If some good bullets are lower cost, that's even better. But Cor-Lok's, I won't go "that" cheap!!

I once weighed a batch of Core-loks and compared the weight variation to that of the Hornady Interlocks in a similar caliber. Now this seven or eight years ago and before the current wave of Remington issues. Even at that time, the Hornady's had less than half the variation of the Remington bullets. After that, I stopped using Remington bullets, as their QC was obviously inferior.

Did you weigh the bullets or the loaded rounds?

I stopped using Remington bullets, as their QC was obviously inferior. I spoke to the guys who started ADG (Atlas Dev Group), the high end brass maker. Those guys worked for Remington for years. He said they purposefully made low quality ammo and components. He said Remington works their pricing and profit backwards. Meaning, They figure out what price point (generally low) they want to sell an item for, and they need to be able to make so much money on that item. Once they know this, they figure out how fast they can make it. They would try to make improvements to the machinery to make a better item, but it would slow production and increase the cost. This was a daily battle and they would constantly turn out pour quality brass and components. They left and started ADG brass.

I believe Sierra has stopped producing this bullet. My family has been loading reduced velocity rounds with this bullet in a .270 for many years. It was our bullet of choice for the kids and ladies in the family.
