Now I'd like to share some photos of things people do up here, and happenings in general. My BIL fishing for Pike on Great Slave Lake. The time is 11:50 pm, it's early in June. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260071-_mg_2340.jpg) A small Pike I caught in the Peace River a few miles from home. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260075-_mg_1184.jpg) There are some big ones out there. My kid brother with a nice Pike. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260076-20180524_192538.jpg) The end of my day of Goose Hunting. Hunting is a popular activity here. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260079-_mg_8978.jpg) Road repairs, I did this for 14 years. No shortage of work on that job. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260082-_mg_9946.jpg) Rodeos are also popular. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260085-2007_0728manning_rodio0068.jpg) Rodeo official ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260086-2007_0728manning_rodio0287.jpg) Crop Dusting ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260087-_mg_6188.jpg) Water Bomber on standby at a nearby airport. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260089-_mg_6313.jpg) And this is why. Forest fire several miles from my home. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/10/full-62432-260091-img_8478.jpg)

Thanks for the adventure. I would bet you are already snowed in?

Thanks for the adventure. I would bet you are already snowed in? Not yet. We've had a couple of light flurries this week but it's all gone now. We seldom have snow that lasts before the end of October. We are also a low precipitation zone. We get about 10 inches of rain total over a normal summer and only about three feet of snow over a normal winter. I'm told that this area would be a desert if it had the evaporation rate that places south of us have. We have very tight soils and a low evaporation rate which combined mean we need far less rain and snow then places in the south.

Pure greatness. Never fished up north.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Is the crop dusting happening over mustard plants? I noticed a lot of mustard fields flying into Calgary last summer.. The crop is Canola, formerly called Rape Seed. It is a First cousin to Mustard. It's an oil seed crop. They make cooking oil from it. Most if not all the fields you saw around Calgary would have been Canola as well. As far as I know very little Mustard is grown in Alberta but Canola is a popular crop.

Slave Lake??? Better be careful or they may come up and protest until you change the name. I hope not. There is too much of that sort of stupidity already.

Midnight sun Yes, well very close to it. The first photo was taken on a lake 8 hours north of us though. We do get a few hours of dark on the longest day of the year. Some call this the land of the midnight twilight.
