I hear that there aren't a lot of Moose in Texas so I thought perhaps some might like to see a few photos of the Moose I see around here. On occasion, even in my yard. Swamp Donkey is a nickname for Moose btw. First a young bull. Cow and Calf, this is early in the fall, I was surprised to see the calf was still suckling. This young bull walked out in front of a trail camera I had set up to test a theory I had regarding camera theft. The test was successful. A young bull that came to investigate my Moose calling efforts. He has a spread of about 30 inches. They get over 60 inches on mature bulls. Early Summer bull with budding antlers. Outstanding in his Field, This three year old Bull decided to take a stroll across my buddies wheat field. That crop he is walking through is almost waist high on me. He has a spread of round 40 inches.

Thanks for posting! Although it's killing me. I was supposed to be hunting them in Newfoundland this month.

Look at that crop of falls and brush! Be hard to get anywhere. Thanks It is. I am always amazed when I see how open the woodlands in the south are. Here we have more shrubs and thorn bushes then trees in our forests. And deadfall. I think you call them falls. We have a lot of Aspen trees and they are short lived and subject to rot even while growing. We don't have any of the hardwood so abundant in the south. Our forests are primarily Poplar and Spruce, with some Pine Larch and Birch mixed in.

Love these photos! Moose have always fascinated me and I was lucky enough to have a young one come up to within thirty feet of our cabin back door two summers ago when we stayed at a place just outside Yellowstone. Keep coming with the photos!

Thanks for sharing the photos. Beautiful country up there. I've was up there bear hunting about 3 years ago and really enjoyed the views. I hope to get back up there sometime.

A few of the other animals around here. A young Mulie buck. A decent sized Whitetail. He was delicious. As I recall he scored a bit over 150 There are a few Grizzly around. I found this one about 10 miles from my home. Elk are getting almost as plentiful as the Deer. There were none here what I was growing up but a few were released here about thirty years ago and they've been doing very well since then. Bull in farmland In the south of the province they have Antelope. but that's 12 hours south of me. I've seen them a number of times but never hunted them. There are also a few Woodland Caribou in the area. Estimates put the population between 50 and 100 in total. I found this one about thirty miles to the south of me. Another critter one doesn't see very often, a Wolverine. This one was four miles from my place. And last but not least, for the larger critters, is this Woodland Bison. This one is part of the only remaining population of wild, pure blood, free roaming Bison in Canada. I found this one about 12 hours north of where I live. There are some closer but those are also a long ways from where I live, about 4 hours north of me. This big fellow was massive. He had to look down to see me in the cab of my 4x4 pickup. I figured he weighed a good 2,000 pounds. We saw at least a dozen on a trip to Yellowknife NWT. They were hanging out on the shoulder of the highway all along the route. I suspect they chose that location because it offered the best chance of catching a breeze to keep the blood sucking insects at bay.
