Wow if you were there 36 years you remember when Austin was about all the greatness you could stand. It was an amazing place in so many levels. So sad.

Me too....had many good times down there 30-35 years ago...the left destroys everything they get their hands on...

It seemed like every 10 years there was a drastic shift in the wrong direction. Or at least a noticeable one. Sad, it used to be a really cool town before the crazies wiggled their way in.

This what I'm hoping, it's our FRREEKIN State Capital, WHY does Abbott, or ANY Governor, let this happen.

That's the conundrum. State laws are separate from local laws. How would we feel if Abbott came to Frisco and told us how to run our local government. The Governor didn't let Austin go to [censored]. Austin let Austin go to [censored].

When the kids are out of school and into college we are out. I just hope housing prices stay strong. We are not in Austin City limits. It's a darn shame, I grew up in Bernie country and moved to Texas with hopes of escaping that, I'm not sure Rome hasn't fallen already and we just don't know it. Who is John Galt.

I spent June thru September working in Austin a few years ago, I was there Monday thru Friday and sometimes Saturday about 10 years ago.

I offered a handful of those guys on standing on corner looking for work or selling bottle water a full time job for at least a few months running a jackhammering and digging up natural gas lines in two huge apartment complex off 35/183.

Never had one of the SOB want to work, at the time it was 12 per hour and free lunch every day. They rather beg than work

I could pick and choose where I worked. I might be a reluctant depending on the temperament of the employer.

My son lives on 1st, and Cesar Chaves is a beautiful area with nice restaurants. Not to mention all the pretty women..... My wife said WTF is everyone here a model. I told her I hadn't noticed with a big smile. Anyway, cross over Chaves, and you will be in a different world. I have been in and out of Austin for 20 years, and in the last 5 years the homeless population has really exploded.

A block away from 6th Street (at 7th and Neches) is a homeless shelter, at least that what I think it is. The bums are packed thick around there, and it stinks. While working on a site on 6th we couldn't walk to the other side of the truck without something being stolen from the opposite side. We were constantly bothered by potheads asking for "money for food."
Almost all parking garages in Austin have some amount of bums, even away from downtown, some smell like an outhouse. I am with the OP, I hate Austin.

My daughter had a six month contract working for an Apple in Austin. The day the six month obligation was met she move to Montana. She hated that place, Apple and Austin.

Maybe a little mystifying, baffling, or puzzling.

Yes, it's called the ARCH and is a major source of problems downtown.

I lived there from 2000-2011 and thought about moving back a couple years ago but it's too far gone.

We used to live in Buda, but would never go past Southpark meadows.

Yep, I am in Buda and don't go north of Slaughter Ln unless I am being paid.
