It's that time of the year when all kitchen pass accounts must have a sufficient balance to ensure no overdrafts, at least for the next several weeks.

Today's deposit is cleaning ceiling fan blades.

Always disliked the term "Kitchen Pass". Makes it sound like you have to ask permission.

My wife knew the deal before we got married. No pass required. She's a great wife

I have a buddy that always has to ask his wife to do anything. I couldn’t live like that. But she makes him happy. We’re all different. Mine knows what’s going to happen starting next weekend and I don’t hear anything about it.

Women feel extra special when a guy who's always in charge demonstrates through his actions that they matter most.

To me its a respect thing. If most people act like the "i dont have to ask permission" then its no surprise the divorce rate is what it is. I mean i dont go crawling on my knees crying and begging, but we at least talk about it before i disappear to south texas. Fortunately she usually comes with me, which is a plus to me.

Don't have to ask. My Wife asks me when I'm going.

I feel sorry for “men” who have to ask their wife’s permission to do anything

I married into a family of hunters so my wife has never had an issue with my frequent trips to the woods. But there were many times when the kids were young that it took looking after them to earn those kitchen passes. Not sure it would be a good sign if the wife never had an issue with me being away so frequently without getting something in return.

It reminds me what a good friend (now deceased) jokingly told me many years ago when we were talking about wives being understanding about our hunting trips. He said a guy told him that his wife once said to him, "I'm going to have sex tonight so you might as well be here."

Sometimes, it is a respect thing. Technically, I don't have to ask permission for anything. However, if something comes up that isn't on the schedule, I say, "Babe, do you mind if I go do blah blah blah..." I put her needs first.

Now, I will say, that she puts my needs first too. If she didn't, I would probably get tired of asking and just start doing.

Whew, my wife is an only child with no hunting in her family history so you can say it takes brownie points for me to slip out for more than a day or two, especially with two young kids. My trick has been to trade her trips to Disney or whatever other vacation she wants for one of my trips. It's an expensive proposition and requires me to "ball on a budget", but a happy home is all any man can ask for.

A "pass" to hunt I don't have to ask for. I take my daughter on youth weekend and my wife goes when she wants to hunt but if I say I'm leaving to go to the farm she's fine with it tells me good luck and be careful. She doesn't text or call until I text her first, she knows when I'm gone I'm hunting and I don't answer my phone and I will let her know when I leave the blind and finish my chores around the farm either mine or the land owner may have. It does usually cost me more money when she's not with me. But as I say she deserves her nails done to relax and to buy nice stuff she knows I need time by myself to decompress and keep my mind right.

Approaching 30 years of marriage, and while I don't ask for permission, I do give advance notice of my plans - giving my wife the opportunity to join me or let me know if there is a conflict/reason to reconsider. Out of town college football, fishing, hunting, motorcycling, etc. have all been part of my passions for most of my life and I am fortunate that she gets it and ALMOST never seems upset when I am gone for a trip.

Will add, I work from home and almost never leave the house during the week, unless business travel, so at times my being gone for a few days on the weekend is maybe a bit of a break for her as well.

Yep! Just cause I can, doesn't mean I should.

How do you know when she wants to see her family and if it conflicts with when you want to hunt/fish if you don't ask?

Unless the kids / grandkids are in town, it's just assumed I'm hunting.
