I'm trying to decide the best way to mount a scope on a new rifle. I can use standard bases or a picatinny rail. Rifle is a Bergara ridge in 6.5cm that I will use for general shooting. I don’t plan to consistently shoot long range (1000yds) so don’t think I need a 20moa base. My other rifles are either ARs or have standard bases.
Can anyone explain the benefits of using one option over another?

Picatinny all the way for that rifle. It just makes changing optics so easy and the ring choices are limitless.

Some of the classic wood rifles would look odd with picatinny so a standard base looks mo betta.

I prefer the rails due to the fact you can use any style ring, you can also swap optics easily, and if you get a scope with a flat bottom like a nightforce, some of the vortex, or a mark 4 up leupold you can use a parallel or feeler gauges to level your scope with a solid rail. I put 20 moa on every rifle I have because you never know what you might wanna do with it, if you have a 6.5 something you can certainly get away with a flat rail.

Picatinny Rails all the way... my bolt rifles each have one - even my mauser... as noted above, makes changing optics or rings so much easier....

Also, it gives you lots of options on optic location that standard bases may not.
