I am disappointed to read on this forum that a hunter, on purpose, would wound an animal by gut shooting with an arrow or bullet in such a way to carry the guts hanging out and die a slow death that could take as long as a month or longer to die. Animal cruelty at best. In my opinion, it is our job as hunters to take down animals in as humanly way possible. I’m disappointed to see a hunter publicly scold another, and then just to make it worse some one publicly agree with him. Left that stuff to the bass fishing people. Do you feel guilty when you put out rat poison, what about any bug deterrent such as amdro or even throwing soapy water on a wasp nest. Ferrel hogs are no different than roaches ants or wasp. I would counter that line of reasoning cuts both ways lefty. Whether it was intentional or not, when a hunter posts advice on the World Wide Web, to intentionally gut shoot an animal so the rest of the animals can “watch her die a slow miserable death”, it paints a picture, (that I don’t believe to be universal), of all of us approving. I honestly think policing ourselves is far better than leaving that out there for the anti hunting groups to pin on all of us. Some things are better left unsaid.

this made me "ponder". It's acceptable with insects, fish, vermin and many, many living creatures we routinely come in contact with, but I am guessing pigs are sacred somehow? Where would you draw the line?

Where would you draw the line? For me it has little to do with species but rather making a conscious choice not to cleanly take the animal when that option is there.

Hudbone, I think you are misunderstanding me. I’m not trying to make up anyone’s mind for them or trying to push what I do or don’t do on anybody. I just don’t put it all on the internet.
To answer your question with a question though: so what would you think about a butcher that killed his pigs with intentional gut shots? More importantly, how would the public react if the slow miserable death was on public display? Some things are better left unsaid, rather than put on public display on the net.
