Went to the doctor in Austin this morning and I was amazed at all the homeless people living right along 290. There were 3 homeless guys in the restroom at the medical complex taking baths in the sink and I swear I gagged at the smell. Like most towns, Austin has some very pretty areas but the crazies are ruining it just as fast as they can. You couldn't pay me to live there.

I moved out of there in 1989.

My parents still live there. I had the chance to move back in 2007. I sat down and talked to them about it. They even said I should not move back if I did not want to.

It has progressed farther down the sewer since then.

After the elections abbot will clean it up.....hopefully.

Left last month after 36 years there and won’t be looking back. That place is turning into a glorified crack den run by idiots who spend people’s money faster than they can take it. Going to be an interesting year next year without the giant piggy bank to waste money from due to less tax revenue.

Our financial guy came to the house a few weeks ago. Their office is in the Frost building on Congress. He said there's maybe 6 people, him being one, in the whole building. He hasn't ridden in an elevator with another person in months. They don't want the women coming into the office because of all the aggressive homeless right outside the door. He told of a homeless guy with a 20' tent and two couches, pitched up right on the bank of Town Lake. (Do they still call it "Town Lake"? They change the name of everything in that town.) 'Best view in the whole city. I was surprised at myself choking up as he spoke. I bitch about that town relentlessly, but I've got family history there since about 1910. It's a dam shame and a failed experiment. Stupid bastards.

Speaking of Lady Bird - Dad worked at the Steck Company when he was young. A book printing company. (His dad was one of the owners, but after he died, my grandmother hardly had a pot to pee in, but I digress.) Anywho - Lady Bird would bring in Lyndon's books to have his name printed on the inside cover. Dad always said that she wore the pants in the family.

It is absolutely sad. Pure sadness. It is such a historically beautiful area. I used to love spending time in that area. But now, no way. So so sad.

The last time I was in Austin was at least 25 years ago. I went to see a buddy that was playing ball at SW Texas and we went to 6th street. I didn’t care for it back then. The place was overrun with queers. I can’t imagine how it is now.
