The hunting hangover is real!! Still feeling it after spending a week chasing mule deer with three of my best hunting buddies. They were 2/2 on pronghorn and on opening day we had some adventures. I had a buck killed right in front of me (350y) by another hunter who was also stalking in (after he crossed a private closed gate- but thats another story). It worked out for the best though because later that day we were resting and a group of hunters busted a TALL 4x4 right to us. My buddy made a great running shot at 75 yards and rolled the buck. Turns out he was the deer I had glassed up the day before season and he was the reason we started in that area to begin with!!! Gotta love when things work out. That deer had 21" G2s and grossed just over 160".

Here is his buck next to an 8pt whitetail euro!!

We logged some serious miles trying to get away from the pressure and it finally paid off again on the 5th day when we got on a group of bucks way out in a flat where no one else was hunting... because it looked like a pancake. But there was some incredible micro terrain that this bachelor group was wisely using. The shot was right at 425 yards into a 20mph wind that was quartering to full value. I gotta give FiremanJG some credit again here-- I took his class summer of 2019 and shot his match that summer as well. The lessons of measuring and shooting into wind at distance plus the confidence of running my rifle to 800 yards repeatedly were invaluable in making this shot. I made the first shot, dropping a large, old 3x4 with eye guards and my buddy was able to then connect on the next biggest buck, a really nice symmetrical 4x4. My buck is at the taxidermist but before we got there we measured his G2s- 20" and he was 26 3/4" wide.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
