Need some input/confirmation of my concerns on an old bow. My first compound bow was a Bear Whitetail that I purchased on the cheap, 2nd hand in about 1995 or so. Had it restrung and it served me well for several years harvesting a few deer and many turkeys. I moved on as I got more serious into bow hunting, but never got rid of the Bear. Now, it has been sitting in a case for a LONG time and I am wondering if it is best thrown away, or worth having serviced (if anyone will touch it) as a starter bow for a relative. Technology passed the Bear by many years ago, but it was a good starter for me, but is it even safe at this point - even if it was restrung.

Thoughts?

Is it one of the old 6 wheeled bows or the later 2 wheel versions? If the steel cables are still sound and no cracks in the limbs the old tank is most likely good to with a new string.

It has been about 5 years ago I "tuned" one up and replaced the string on one for a customer that took it pronghorn hunting and he got one at a fence crossing in Wyoming. .

Good to know - it is a 2 wheel version. Will take a look at the cables and limbs.

So it is newer than that old beast of the 6 wheel design from the 70s. Does it have the steel cables or string material like the string is. Bear ha whitetail bows in their line for years.

If it is the steel cable model with the duel tear drop string holder you can order a string and replace it your self. I can talk you through that on the phone. Be easier that way than trying to type it out

Thanks - will take a look and reach out ... maybe a couple of weeks - I left the bow at my pop's place and need to pick it back up.
