The neighbor is needing a tractor in the 35 to 40 hp range. He says he’s leaning toward a Kyoti. And he says Bobcat is making tractors these days, so he’ll look at them. Who here has a Kyoti and some use experience.
He has asked me for advice. I said Mahindra, Kubota, or New Holland, but he isn’t really listening. He is a bit strapped for funds, so he wants low price but good quality. I thought I’d put this question to ya’ll. What do you suggest in the low price but good quality category?
I also suggested getting a used tractor, but he didn’t hear that either.

Kubota for me my most recent tractor had 119 hours on It when I purchased. So I'll call that new. Don't know anything about a Koito. TMY makes cheap tractors I think there made in Korea.

I have a Kioti tractor. It's branded Cub Cadet but Kioti made them back in 2004 when I purchased it. It's a 41 hp. It does everything I need it to do. I a loader and it has rear hydraulics. I use the rear hydraulics for my log splitter. I don't remember the exact specs but it had a better lift rating than the comparable JD. I knew I was going to keep it for a long time so I wasn't as concerned about resale value. It also had a mid PTO. I have never used it but thought about a belly mower at one time. The dealer I got it from was also a JD dealer so comparing the two was easy. It was about $5 grand cheaper. You don't have number of dealers so if you have a warranty issue you may have a drive on your hands. Maybe your friend lives close to a reputable dealer that will be around if something does happen. You can find a JD, Kubota, New Holland dealer much easier than a Kioti dealer. I have not had a single issue with mine and have been very happy with it. I wanted one that was big enough to move round bales and it does a good job with that. I have a box blade, disc harrow, 6' shedder and the log splitter and it accommodates them all quite well. I did get 4 wheel drive and would recommend that to everyone. I don't have a cab but wish I did. Motor is a Daedong (they are mostly all imported now).

I’ve made a few suggestions about tractors, new and used, but it appears that he will buy a 40 hp Kyoti or 40 hp Bobcat. Whichever is cheapest. He’s a smart guy, has done his homework and research, and apparently made up his mind. That doesn’t mean he’ll make the best choice or the choice we’d have made. Personally, I’d have gone for Cast’s 55 hp JD, with FEL and shredder at what I think is a great price. But he won’t buy JD.

If your buddy is a smart guy he'd call Gavin and tell him what he was planning to do with the tractor. He'd tell him everything he would need to know without trying to make a sale.

Bobcat has been in and out of the tractor business before. They look cool but they may not be a around long term. I bought my 50 hp Mahindra from J5 in Buna.
You can get a deal on a Mahindra if you work it. Those big Mahindra dealers have a ton of inventory, way more than most tractor dealers. There is a deal somewhere.
Thanks, Billy

Don't buy a new one with the crap emission stuff on it. Started to pull the trigger on a new 2018 Kubota (around 38 hp) and guy came in with a newer one , as I was fixing to sign papers, and it needed $2800 buck repair cause he idled it to much. Emission junk needed replaced. Regen goodies messed up. Had 128 hours on it. Might have been a one up problem but they said they had issues if idled to long. Heck that's what i do. Start them in morning and run as long as I need it. Bought a 36 hp Mahindra. Ain't as refined but does the job. Mahindra is the only one I know that doesn't need the stuff. Don't know about Kyoti.

I have bought a 3 Kubota's, two tractors both are bullet proof. I think the emissions is a non issue in most cases. All tractors over 25hp will have some sort of system, so its going to be there if he buys new.

My FIL has a Kioti tractor. Not sure of HP, buy it does have a nice air conditioned cab. It has been a reliable tractor. The biggest issue is when he does need parts. Its tough for him to get parts.

My oldest son works as a mechanic at a Kioti dealer and has for the las year. He thinks they are pretty good machines. At one time I thought pretty lowly of them mainly from a respected friends opinion that was a maintenance supervisor at a local ISD and they had a lemon of one. My FIL is on his second after trading in a 55hp for a 73hp. He uses his for snow removal in eastern Canada so probably 100-120 hours a year and has had no issues in the 7 years he's has Kioti. He owned and operated an auto and machinery repair shop for 40 years and don't think he'd buy junk. My neighbor and friend whose son owns a 400 ac high fence ranch SW of Ft Worth uses a Kioti for haying and ranch work. The neighbor is a JD guy and is very impressed. He's pretty damn machinery savvy. I'm a Kubota guy but not a fan of their regen emission deal. I think their hydraulics need more lifting power. Both Kubotas I've owned have been absolutely trouble free. Had none nor developed any fluid leaks. My present MX5200 has 400+ hours and has been utterly dependable since I got it 2015. I consider Kubota the Toyotas of tractor world ... engineered great and like the Energizer bunny just keep on going! Where I think Kioti grades higher is they weigh more (like Mahindras) and in many cases weight translates into traction. Only drawback would be wet unstable ground. Also they have great hydraulics, especially their FIL's and rate higher than Kubota. Lastly, Bobcat light tractors are contracted to the company that builds and owns Kioti but are being built to Bobcat specs. "These new tractors are designed by Bobcat, but they're currently being built by Daedong, makers of the Kioti tractor brand. ... Beyond the size of the market, Bobcat says tractors serve as a good way to introduce the brand to new customers." Bobcat compact tractorsI would buy and own Kioti now. Bobcat hasn't been out (designed and tried) long enough for my liking. Can't let your pocketbook totally rule every decision ... sometimes its a pay me now or pay me (more) later. I'd also own Mahindra. There are 2 Kioti dealers within 25 miles and another in Lufkin (60 miles).

Jet dad is giving some damn good advice re dealer location. I have a JD that I like except for the plastic. But they are all that way now.
My mistake was buying the tractor with no local dealer if a problem occurs. And it will occur. I have to load it on a trailer for a 50 to 60 mile ride. Or, if it is a problem starting, etc and I can’t fix it, I would have to pay someone to come to me from a long way away.
Best tractor advice I got before buying is that a utility tractor without a front end loader is half a tractor. And a loader without 4wd is useless.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

I came very close to buying a 50 hp Kioti before pulling the trigger on my MX 4800. For roughly the same price, the Kioti had several things that I gave up on the Kubota, specifically rear remotes and 3rd function on the FIL. BUT, it came down to the dealer network - from my place I have two dealers within about an hour, and with the Kioti, there was only one and it is 2+ hours away. Not sure how the Bobcat dealer network is going to work, but guessing it will take several years before there are enough to cover a region.

My Kubota MX5200 has the DPF Filter on it and DO NOT LET IT SIT THERE AND IDLE! You have to run it at 2000 RPM's to keep the DPF Filter burning all the emission junk. Totally opposite of older tractors. I'm aware of what is happening so a non issue for me.

For the most part its the same as the modern diesel trucks. The folks who work them have fewer issues than the folks that put them around town and baby them.

Im still tractor shopping myself, i guess i need to quit let grass grow under my feet and buy one, but ive been biding my time lol.
If looking for a new tractor with emissions equipment... i have read a selling point of the Branson tractors is that the emissions stuff is all mechanical/pressure/vacuum operated and you can just unbolt the parts and the tractor will run fine without them.

Just got off of my Kubota 4400DT. Pre DEF. probably will never sell it till I’m too old to use it.
I’ll talk to my neighbor on tractors one more time, and mention J5. Then I’ll shut up about it.
