Been bow hunting around 10 years and never had this happen. Got some bites brushing in my treestands and then opening weekend I got lit the eff up. Anybody else have this happen? Not even 100% it’s chiggers. The bites are a little smaller than bites I’ve gotten on my legs in the past but they feel and itch like them. Still itching like hell a week later.

You walked through a mess of them on the way to your stand. I am a big believer in permethrin for early season hunting. Good luck, that itching can drive you crazy.

Can't remember who put me onto it but I now use sprays that include Picaridin as the active ingredient to fend off the ticks and chiggers/red bugs. It doesn't interact with plastics and other surfaces and reportedly has no smell. I've found it works just as good as Deet-based sprays if not better.

I don’t think I walked through them. Only bites on my legs were up high. Most of the bites were on my back and sides.

It’s chiggers. My place has them bad. I am still dealing with some three weeks old now. I hunt elevated for the most part early season, so don’t deal with the chiggers as much, but mosquitos and gnats, those things are bad this year.

You didn't fill any feeders with old feed did you? I got "harvest mites" one time; old feed, bites all over my left shoulder, back, and side. Some say they're the same as chiggers/redbugs, but I don't believe it. 'Suckers lived under my skin for 2 weeks. 'Talk about your "skin crawling". eek There's a prescription cream that'll make the itching stop, but you gotta see a dermatologist.

'Been leery of old feed ever since.

They hitch a ride on you for hours until they find the right spots, usually where clothes are tight fitting.

There’s not much in life that feels better than scratching a chigger bight!

Had it happen many times with the grass what high.

Worse than chiggers though are seed ticks!!! bang

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I used to work with a roustabout who swore by looping flea collars around the ankles of his boots. Said he never got chiggers or ticks.

You probably brushed against one bush that had them. It's all part of the game especially in early fall. Deep woods Off..... and play the wind, or tough it out!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Thermacell seems to be helping so far but still getting a few skeeter and gnat bites right at dark gnats are really bad this year. My chigger bites get scratched until they are a little raw and then rubbed down with rubbing alcohol. Seems to be the only way I can get relief and get them to dry up and stop itching. I hate those stupid things!

Last year got hit by chiggers multiple times at my lease. Soaked my ankles and feet in a hot bath with clorox in the water and the itching stopped in a few hours. Any bleach will do.

I ordered some permethrin spray and I’ll have that on from here on out. I always have a thermacell but I doubt it has any effect on chiggers. It barely keeps the mosquitoes away. I use deep woods off all the time except for bow hunting. I want to be scent free for that. Hopefully the permethrin spray works otherwise I’ll just have to suffer. Chiggers ain’t keeping me out of the bow stand dammit!

What the eff? You live in deep east Texas and never had a chigger bite? Have you never left your house in your life? LOL. I do the sulphur-in-a-sock trick and haven't had a chigger bite in years. They use to light me up in my younger days though.

I take it none of you morons have heard of something called insect repellent. It's been around for quite a while and it works.

deeps wood off sprayed around boot tops pant legs and belt area is my go to. Needs to be at least 40% deet or better and should be good to go. Surveyed the McAlister Army ammunition plant for some environmentalist using duck tape and Sulphur they got ate up and warned us surveyors. Deer had ticks the size of moth balls all around their ears and neck. I didn't get a bite. Saw some monster bucks though and that was 30 years ago

Deep Woods Off definitely works, but it kills scent control. For once in my life I'll agree with Dan and say that I only buy the Sawyer Picardin spray and lotion now. Lotion works for 18 hours, spray for 12. Otherwise, go with the permethrin.
