but they finally fell apart around the stitching an the inside insulation came loose making them uncomfortable.. However i never liked them much do to the difficulty of getting them in the trigger guard on my rifle...are there any gloves that, i guess you could call "low profile" to fit in the trigger guard, but still keep your hands warm in 30 and 40 degree weather? suggestions?

I have used military surplus leather gloves with wool liners for decades. In extreme cold, I would add a silk or nylon glove liner. They have always been my favorite, but like most I always looked for the better "mousetrap", so I have a pair of like your first one, but mine came from a ski shop and are not camo. They are just too bulky.

I cant stand bulky gloves and find the mittens that flip off to expose your fingers too much of a hassle at the moment of truth. Years ago, I started putting the small chemical hand warmers in the palm of my hand with light gloves. If my fingers get cold, I simply withdraw those fingers into the palm area of the glove until they feel warm again. Seems to be able to handle all Nebraska can dish out.

I buy a new pair of deerskin gloves from the feedstore every two months. That’s all you need in Texas.

Heck, 30 to 40 is still summer here for us! Get them about a half size big, so you have a little room. Like H said above, pull your fingers back and ball them up. Squeeze and contract to get blood flowing again, and they warm right up.

Perfect gloves are hard to find. I have some, but they are badly worn. My wife keeps them stitched together because I can’t find more just like them. They are medium weight camo cotton with soft goatskin on the palm, grip surfaces of the fingers, and full goatskin coverage on thumb and trigger finger. Wonderfully comfortable. But I can’t find more.

Husk and I seem to have a lot in common. I cant stand bulky gloves and I get cold real easy. I glass a lot so that gets your hands out in the wind. I almost always wear(regardless of temp) a ver light weight skin tight glove which can be enough often. What i will do is keep the handwarmers in those handwarmer things you stick both hands in at your waist quite often when not using hands. Then when it gets real cold I have a pair of wool type gloves that easily go over the light weight ones. Any combination im able to pull trigger easy. I use more than one of those chemical handwarmers in that thingy and it will warm em up then take out again as needed. Of course if its really cold a heater may be nearby to warm em up. Im a fanatic about having stuff thats functional yet not heavy or bulky. If theres a better mouse trap, i want it.

Also, when it comes to almost any clothing or maybe any gear, Bobo seems to me to be the go to guy. I would check out any suggestion he makes.

I snow ski & hunt in nothing but simple rag wool gloves. Not even thinsulate in them, and they are awesome.

My hands get really cold while hunting. I have used all sorts of gloves (Sitka, OR, Mountain Hardwear, North Face, Kuiu, etc) with varying layers of insulation etc. and have struggled to find the right setup until about a year ago. Temps above 30 degrees I use a glove with a wind breaker lining and minimal insulation. If colder temps below freezing I’ll use a slightly thicker “medium weight” lined windbreaker glove. If it’s super cold below teens I break out the down mitts.

That being said, I only wear the non shooting hand glove all of the time. I keep the 18 hour hand warmers in pockets on each side of my jacket. Shooting hand glove comes off once seated to glass. I never put my glove back on until it’s time to hike out or move spots. If my hand gets cold I just stick it back in my pocket and hold my hand warmers. It works great for me. Has almos made gloves obsolete for me except when hiking.

I have some like these but a different brand. I figured out I can fold my fingers down inside the mitten part to the palm of my hand and then just straighten them out and it flips the mitten part off of my fingers (that may or may not make sense in writing). That way I can get my fingers out to shoot quickly and with one hand.

Costco carries some Head brand gloves that are thin and nice for $10

I just use those cheap brown cotton gloves.

Yep, cheap brown cotton gloves is what my Dad used. But that was in 71. It was cold that morning but Mom was with him so they were in the truck.

I wear a pair of Cabela's "camoskinz" insulated gloves I found at Goodwill. They're kind of cheap but I like how thin they are, and they do a pretty good job for my needs in 30-40 degree weather.

If my hands get cold in those, I stick them in one of those stupid looking hand muff things that you wear like a fanny pack, where I keep hand warmers. It looks dumb, but not as dumb as cold hands.

This has kept my hands warm hunting in both Texas and late season Ohio.

I've tried several over the years and the fact is my hands just get cold quicker than some do I guess. If I'm just sitting, I'll have handwarmers opened up before I leave camp and in my coverall / jacket pockets. Cold toes and fingers do not make for a comfortable hunt to me.
