Looking at these two safes as an extra. Does anyone have any input on one over the other?

More locking bolts on the Winchester safe. Believe me it makes a difference. And better fire protection. My 2 cents

My brother just got that same winchester safe on sale from TSC, seems very robust and good quality. However the Winchester is made in China. not sure about the other,

Always buy a bigger safe then you think you need. I have a few of the Cannon safes and very pleased with them. Just my 2 cents worth

Winchester looks better on paper, but made in China

When my home flooded during hurricane Harvey, I called Cannon to purchase new guts for my wet safe. Customer rep said he would start a claim/warranty ticket. Huh? He said if a Cannon safe is flooded, in a fire or attempted burglary, a new safe would be sent free of charge.
I sent pictures, my purchase information, and local news stories of the flood for proof. My new safe was delivered free of charge. I kept the original as well.
I hope I never have to use their warranty again but it was a nice to have them honor their warranty.

Wait til Black Friday sales in a few weeks...TSC and Academy will have their safes super cheap. I got a Cannon last year at Academy, I think a 54 gun, for either $499 or $599.

Every safe owner learns that he should have bought a bigger one. If it says 30 guns, it might hold 20 as long as a bunch are pistols.

Fireproof? Yeah. They won’t burn but the contents might not be usable. I keep important paperwork in mine but it is questionable what condition they will be in if the house burns.

Keep yourself papers in the bottom. It’s not pretty but heat rises. I don’t have the reference but someone did a study and the temp difference top to bottom is several hundred degrees in a fire.

All Winchester 26 gun safes are not created equal and likely others. The identical safe at Atwood’s had a much better fire rating than TSC. It was also significantly heavier from the added sheet rock. It was also more expensive. Do your research and get what you want.

Look for used options. I found my first safe off of this forum over 10 years ago. I believe I paid 400 for it, an older cannon. Was a great safe! Buy double the size you think you need; trust us when we say they fill up fast!

Thanks for all the input. I ended up going with the Canon. It’s not bad but I’ve had better. This will mainly be an ammo/important documents safe so the shelf space is nice. I’ll keep a few pistols on the inside of the door as well

Thanks WP. Never thought of that. Right now I have phone books on the side that I have the paper work.
