Aliens do this all the time, all over the world. This is clearly their work. Do some research on it. You’ll see.

Curious if the GW made that call in person with the kill, or off the pics being sent to them?

Looks like a poacher to me. Those racks can be marketed for many reasons, even Satanic. You said “been losing them....without a trace.” That means whomever it is feels comfortable going back for more. I’d set a trap for him/them which would include a game camera.

A coyote did. I have seen many fawns and several calves they killed. They get in a tug of war from the head and neck on one end and the but on the other.

Y'all that keep saying trophy, IT HAD NO HORNS.
IT HAD NO HORNS.
He said, multiple times, it was not a trophy & it had no horns so quit saying "trophy".

Believe me, there are plenty of people out there that get up each morning and eat a big bowl of STUPID.

I run into them on a regular basis. (Deep East Texas)

Wasn't ticked & wasn't referring to a single person. Multiple people said the head was taken as a trophy/for it's horns even though he stated many times it didn't have horns.
I was making it even more clear that's not why this was done. Was it a human? Pretty sure it was. Did a human take it for it's horns? Nope.

If you get bowed up over something that trifling, I'm glad I don't live nowhere near you. I'm sure the opinion is mutual, but that ain't nothin' to get mad about.

You mean like the people stupid enough to post pictures or videos of animals they poach on social media, brag to friends, etc.? Most people are not criminal masterminds.

Determination of whether or not it was taken as a trophy requires understand of motivation, not material. It doesn't have to have horns to be a trophy. Just because you or the OP would not take a hornless head as a trophy does not rule out other people doing it. People take all sorts of parts as trophies. It does not matter that there were other animals in the herd with better heads or horns. People will trophy mount does, on occasion, even if the males have antlers or horns https://cdn2.shopify.com/s/files/1/1730/9241/products/Doe_Head_Mount_-_Impala_722x725__compressed_2048x@2x.jpg?v=1497620748

While I think it was more likely that the head was taken to hide evidence, that does not rule out it taken/being kept as a trophy, or as a food item as noted above. There is no evidence from the remaining carcass to indicate the particular motivation for taking the head.

Probably stay a mystery unless someone’s eyes or a game cam catches something that sheds more light on what’s going on.

I know of no animal that would eat or decapitate / take the head even if killed by neck.

I also think you’re looking for a two legged culprit.

They’re two-legged, alright, but they aren’t human.

This is human.

What animal would take a head and not first eat the other parts? Plus drag he body from the spot of the kill.

The only body damage was to the head area so hve to rule that out.

Was in an open pasture 200 yds from a home.

We are pretty sure it was shot , probably with a 22 or something quiet first. Not a lot of fur on the ground and not enough blood on the ground for a live kill to have occurred. All neighbors are on alert for anything suspicious. Whoever did this had to walk in as we are 2 miles from any kind of highway.

Even ewe sheep skulls can go for up to 25 to 50 bucks on ebay. Fixed up as art they can go for quite a lot more. Clean Corsican/Mouflon skulls with horns can go from 100 to 500.

When I was hunting a ranch near brady, a couple that lived on the place had buckets of semi range cleaned goat and sheep skulls in their barn. They raised sheep and goats. When I inquired the couple told me they saved the heads to sell to a buyer who made the rounds to the area ranches once or twice a year.
Not saying that is what is happening to stillhntr's sheep. He did say mostly young are disappearing. Those small ones are probably going to 4 legged predators though someone in hard times could be eating them I guess. A fellow hunter and I ate thanksgiving with that same couple I was talking about above and instead of turkey, other than what we brought to contribute to the meal, we ate all they had which was Lamb or more likely mutton. I got the impression they ate a lot of it.

I did read a study or article from australia online that to the best of my memory mentioned foxes going for the neck to kill because they were too small to drag a sheep down from behind, then going on to remove the head from the body, but they were taking it to their den for their young to eat on. It was related to season if I remember. Too early for texas to be that. I was unable to find the article again or I would have provided a link.

I suggest putting up time lapse cameras like plotwatchers on the likely areas so they don't have to be triggered, can be high enough or far enough away that they won't be noticed, and can cover a wider area. I am in the process of doing that myself right now to try and catch on camera someone dumping dead hogs near a gate to my hunting lease. And consider opening the property up to an experienced trapper.
