It was great beer when it was $8 a 20 pack. Once the price went up it wasn’t near as good. At that same time a case of Busch tall boys was $13.

I remember that beer LOL. Last time I saw it was 1994 -1995 when I was working at HEB my Junior/Senior year of HS. Used to pack up and deliver huge grocery orders to the shrimp boats. A few Captains allowed beer, and this was almost always their choice because it was cheap I guess. I drank one about half cold one time and almost puked. Was pretty nasty.

I drank the original Olympia and Coors in the late 1960's. On a tight budget, Brew 102 was the choice at $1.02 for a six pack of 12 oz bottles.

Two of my Uncles used to work at the brewery and they had a huge patio they would have parties, weddings, and whatever.
There was a huge pool full of enormous catfish and bass swimming around in that pool.
I'd throw jalapeno stems, bread, and pretty much anything, and watch the bass and especially the catfish inhale the food.........Weren't supposed to, but us kids did it anyway!

The Hall of Horns and The Buckhorn Bar, oh my the memories. Dingleberry's dad ran the grounds and we got to know lots quite well. Fuzzy Plunkett (this one time - a real name) used to be an animal trainer or trick shooter there, not sure which and maybe both. That stuff was long gone in the mid seventies when Dingleberry and I were 15, but Fuzzy was a tour guide at that time. He would take us down to that ginormous pool where they also did diving exhibitions and would "call up" those catfish. After he showed us how (stomping feet), we would use it to impress friends we would take as guests.

Drank many a drawn beer from the Buckhorn bar. Used to be however many you wanted, but then they started giving only two wooden nickels with your paid admission. We never had to use no wooden nickels, At some point there was a concern with usins and our "perceived youth". The solution was simple though, they made us go into the "Executive Bar", a private room right next door where there was a limitless supply of very cold long necks. Never will forget, Dingleberry and I went there the day of our graduation. We should have gone after the ceremony instead of before.

Wish I still had my stamped penny from there.

Have not had a Lone Star beer in forever. Had some friends back in the 70's that belonged to the Lone Star van club in Dallas. I went with them on a trip to San Antonio to see the brewery, cool place!

'Brewery still sits empty. Big piece of property that the city has said a developer's gonna make it into the next big thing two or three times, but it still sits there, like an old shipwreck.

I buy it occasionally. Longnecks only, no cans.

Tolbert's chili in Dallas used to run these in the afternoon for $.50 each. We were in college back then.

I'll drink Lone Star or Lone Star light. I like about any beer but an IPA, Corona or that flavored crap.

I used to drink a lot of it in my early 20s, apparently prior to my taste buds fully developing.

If I was to buy some now, it would be the Light version.
FYI, if you buy it hot you can chill it in 9 minutes. Load the bottom of the cooler with a case of Lone Star, cover with ice. Then add a couple gallons of water.

Haven’t had a Lone Star in years, Pearl for that matter either. My grandfather stocked his “beer fridge” with nothing but Pearl and Lone Star back in the day, and being a boy and doing what boys, do my first beer was a Pearl I swiped from that fridge.

Lone Star seemed to fall out of favor in the 80’s at least where I went to college. Lone Star still advertised heavily with posters, neon, concerts etc. but couldn’t seem to compete with Miller Lite and the Miller Lite Athletic Cub commercials back in those days.

I used to stock the deer cabin cooler with Lone Star and Pearl, that kept the young ones buying beer so I could drink theirs.

I remember taking the Lone Star Brewery tour when I was a kid. They had a huge mural on the right as you went up some steps made of rattlers. At the top they had a whole mounted longhorn over a fireplace.

For the record, Pearl was way worse than Lone Star. Not even in the same class. The Pearl grandson/heir was found to have cut up his girlfriend and had her in bags in his garage. "Heavy lies the crown..."

I remember reading that good beer comes from other countries like mexico and germany. They still make beer with the original recipes. The beer makers in the US have went to cheaper synthetic ingredients.
