I have always read if you are across the river in the southeast portion(I think) of the area that is the better hunting overall. There are a few posts on here that mention one area of the park is hands odwn better hunting.

I was down there in the summer of 2019. My wife and I walked down the many trails next to the river very early one morning. I had seen quite a few axis deer as well as whitetails down there by the river. You can see a long way under the canopy of trees but I would take some loppers to trim some of the limbs that might be in your way if you are in a pop-up blind. I would bet that a short tripod or ladder stand would also work very well out there.

I hunted there last year and it was assigned blinds. Some people did well and others not so well, but it didn't seem to matter which area you were in. All blinds are close to the river. You will see hundreds of WT's standing around and eating your corn, the axis don't do that. The only ones me and my buddies saw were either running or standing for a second about to run again. You've got to be on your toes an ready at all times, they don't give you long looks at all.

Thanks y'all. I used to hunt Walter buck archery hunts back in the day. I've been putting in for this hunt for 17 years, so I'm looking forward too it. This is probably my favorite public hunting area, but haven't hunted it in years. Sounds like ill need to have my gun ready and holding at all times . No phone 😁
