I'm looking for a falconry lease on a property with rabbits and/or squirrels to pursue with my red-tailed hawk within an hour's drive of south Austin.
Last year, I took my hawk on a dove lease property during the weeks between the early and late season as well as post-dove season, unfortunately the landowner sold the land recently so it's no longer available. If somebody is looking to lease their "dove property" while dove season is closed I'd be interested in leasing the land for falconry for a reasonable fee. Please PM me if you have or know of something.

That is awesome. Good luck on your search and that is fun hunting. Post a pic of her. As a kid pops was in that game and I really want him to get back into it.

Several years ago I got an opportunity to go hunting with this fellow. Very neat to watch them hunt.

Harris is what I want my pops to get back into it with. Falcons are fun hearing the wind off the wing tips but a harris is a calm and cool bird all around.

You mentioned your father flying a Harris's hawk - I'd be interested in owning one down the road, they're interesting in that they're the only "pack hunting" raptor. However, you hunt the same type of quarry with a Harris's in much the same way as you would a red-tail. At this point, I'm thinking of getting a Cooper's hawk as a second bird - smaller, faster, and much more adept at catching birds than a redtail, that's more of a rodent and rabbit specialist. Sorry about not posting pictures of my hawk, but I don't have a photobucket account and this forum doesn't allow direct attachments of large files for understandable reasons.
