scared the carp out of me going up a mountain the city in a vw and hearing bombs going off. It was the dead celebration and celebration of costumed folks coming up the street with YUGE fireworks was a sight to see.

I've spent some time in Mexico. Early years spring breaks, later years fishing, hunting and no doubt partying along the way.
One of the most interesting experiences was the rock fight in Mexico City with the homeless people living in the building being renovated a block or two from the Hotel Ramano where we were staying.
We were on spring break in 1973 or 74 in Mexico city before we headed out for Acapulco for a few days.
I played baseball and to throw modesty out the window, had a pretty good arm. We were walking down the side walk a few blocks were where we were staying and one of my buddies asked me if I could hit the back wall of the building were the bottom floor had been knocked out to rebuild. I said you bet I can. There were chunks of concrete about the size of baseballs along the side walk. I picked on up and let it fly. It hit the back wall big time. We didn't know how many homeless people were living in the bottom floor being renovated or whatever. Next thing we know rocks were coming our way. Then it was game on.
We when into full blown rock fight. they had us out numbered but we had a really good supply of rocks along the sidewalk. I feel bad about it now, but one of those homeless people raised up and bent over to pick up a rock, before he could turn around I caught him square in the back and took him out. After that we hauled arse like 17 year olds did in that situation. I still to this day feel bad for hitting that guy in the back with that rock.
I spent my Jr. and Sr. Yr in High School during spring break in Mexico. How we made it out alive I will never know.
We broke a really big window out of the 8th floor of the hotel Ramado the next day and several people got cut up really bad walking to work which I still feel really bad about. This is another story for another time.
Thanks, Billy

Forgot about Merida. Reasonable drive from Cancun. Very rich in history. I’ve always wanted to go there.
To be determined
