Is there any business in the DFW area or region that custom cuts foam for rifles cases? I have 3 that need to be cut and fitted.
Thanks!

It's not hard. Lay everything out where you want it, outline with a sharpie then start cutting. I used my benchmark pocket knife but some have used electronic slicing knifes or even a hot wire to cut the foam.

I used an electric filet knife.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I did mine with an X-acto knife, but it looks like a drunk 2 year old with a chain saw did it.

Don’t use a dremel, just saying. Do use a filet knife. Don’t use a red sharpie on the wrong side while drinking. I really wish I still had the pic of the dremel attempt.

Find one of those guys that make styrofoam parts for their big R/C airplanes and have a hot cutter. They can have it done before you can find a safe surface to lay your foam out and cut it, and it'll look better

Made a blade Got it hot with a cutting torch, creating a hot knife.
Worked like a champ.
Don't breathe the smoke, it's wretched.

Use the opposite side of the foam to lay gun and parts on that you want to trace and cut out. This way, all of the tracing lines are on the opposite side. Once you cut it out, flip it over and you won't see any of the pen marks you made to trace the items. Not to pick on wp75169 but you can see his outline marks on his lighter foam in the last pic (yes I am OCD and many/most couldn't care....but I do :hammer).
I have tried: - box cutters.....poorest performer - surgical blade .....to short of a blade to get the depth needed for it to look nice. Impossible to get it done on a single pass - benchmade knife ....... the sawing action required to cut leaves uneven - unclean edges - electric carving knife....... works really well. Just a little to easy to get carried away and the blade travels further than intended. - electric/hot knife....... the absolute best. Clean lines and is easy to control. As FiremanJG said....... AVOID THE FUMES. Definitely something to perform outside in a well ventilated area.

Oh you can pick all you want. The other side was ruined. I talked about it in the thread I linked. That was the first one I did. Learned a little.

Lol......I’ll confess it took me two times to realize that very same mistake. Then I had the “AhhHahh” moment. As you can tell by my multiple attempts above, I have screwed up plenty myself.

Another option I have tried in the past that worked well, if a top opening 6' deep freeze is available, put the foam in it and let it freeze trying to keep it level.
The frozen foam is easy to cut cleanly with a very sharp thin blade knife.

I use Kaizen foam. It is layered and closed cell. It cuts very well. They have specialty markers with very long tips to so you can get a tight trace. Or you could just get the cube cut foam, it gets pretty close.

Be sure to seal the cut edge with a clear urethane to protect it from flaking apart over time. Plenty of YouTube videos on different techniques on foam cutting. Cutting Gun Case Foam
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

I appreciate the responses, I am not confident enough in my foam cutting abilities to attempt this. The two rifles in question are McWhorter and Nosler Custom Shop rifles. They deserve the best even if they have the worst possible nut behind them. Cases are Pelican V800, but I am only putting one rifle in each case.

I have no idea who would cut it for you. If you change your mind replacement foam is available on Amazon pretty cheap.
