That's rather depressing for me and my dogs, but about what was expected. Thanks Tigger for sharing with us.

Yes, pretty much expected. Hoped for better.

I recently read the Quail Forever Texas forecast that came out. They recommended going to South Texas for better action this year. I think I am stubborn enough to still try The rolling plains and maybe even venture into Oklahoma.

Charts don`t back him up.
Game Management Quail in Texas Bobwhite Quail Forecast Texas Bobwhite Quail Forecast 2020-21 Perspective Statewide surveys were initiated in 1978 to monitor quail populations — Historical survey data, 1978 to 2020. This index uses randomly selected, 20-mile roadside survey lines to determine annual quail population trends by ecological region. Comparisons can be made between the mean (average) number of quail seen per route this year and the 15-year mean for each ecological region. The following table shows the annual mean number of Bobwhite Quail observed per route by ecological region from 2006 to 2020.

friend of mine works cattle in south Tx., says the quail are in good shape and they usually do fare better. the issue is temperature. hunting quail in short sleeves and wearing out dogs. still, better than no quail...

There could be pockets. My best year was 2011. Started a started a thread called A New Record in January of that year.

We do better on the dryer years in my area. More weeds. Less grass.

Hearing a bunch whistling in Colorado City. Coveys on game camera at the feeder have 20-25. Hoping for the best.

I made a few calls to a couple of closer-in Rolling Plains day lease guys, and neither have enough birds to mess with so might get some pen birds and mess around with them both weekend mornings and fish or hog hunt in the afternoon (gotten overpopulated again but now those dang things are also trap wise...allowed me to hone my skills at head shots of late).
