I continue to see different bucks visiting my mock scrape, the first one I've created just to see if and how they work. This buck might be a good one to show kids and newcomers as an example where it's too close to call. Or is it?

It might also serve as something to show others as an example of a buck that doesn't reach the lower bar of being acceptable for harvest on a given property.

From that photo, it is too close for me to be 100% positive that the buck is legal. So, I would have to pass.

Because the ears are not in their more narrow "alert" position, I actually believe the buck is legal. Still, he'll get another year should I see him.

Letting him live another year is fine but he is easily legal. Probably 14" or so.

Don't let your ears hear what your eyes didn't see, and don't let your mouth say what your heart doesn't feel

I'd pass on the first. Looks to close to be sure.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

First deer is close, but too close. The second deer is a different one for sure.
