I. Have a kennel with a roof, however hundreds of dogs lives have been saved with. The invisible fence,, yet some of you are still fighting it. "Watered down." (Not correcting your grammar Bill; no way, no how.)

If you put a shock collar on one, do not hit the button if they are at the top of the fence. Buddy of mine had a fence jumping dog. He put a shock collar on it. He let it out of the house, dog hit the side pasture headed for the fence. My buddy Kim hit the shock clollar button about the time he got to the fence. He clearned the fence by about two feet and the only time he heard was when he hit the button again and he just kept running out of sight.
We used to kid Kim about having half a shock collar He said that was the worst 100 bucks or whatever he paid for it he'd ever spent.
Thanks, Billy

Set two wires...one hot one not. About 1/2 - 3/4 way...hot. Top not hot. Once hit, the dog will notice two wires and won't make the same mistake twice (in their mind).

We had an one of the petsafe invisible fences and it worked great initially. Then our rottie learned that she could run through it. After that, it would keep her in if she wanted, but wouldn't stop her if she got a head of steam going and was chasing something. We also had issues where her thick fur kept the points on the collar from making good contact with her neck. We tried the longer points, but it didn't make much of a difference.
We have/had two other dogs that were jumpers/climbers and they laughed at the little 4' breezeway fence between our house and our garage. I raised it to about 5.5' and it was enough to keep the first dig honest; most of the time. The second dog wasn't so honest and I ended up having to raise it to about 6.5' We can't put any chairs or flat surfaces near the fence or he will use them as a springboard to go right over the top.
Thanks, Rich

So after I posted my reply a while ago I am now receiving ads from Amazon featuring "extreme dog fence wire." We ARE being monitored.

The best thing about dogs that escape all the time is eventually you won’t have to mess with them anymore.

I have 2 dogs, many ways for them to escape the back yard but they don't. My wife always telling me to patch the holes in the fence, I tell her those dogs aint going any where. I have had many dogs over my life and never had an issue with them wanting to escape. It will happen with young pups, or dogs that are treated like tools I guess, but when they get older and with proper training, and love, they will not leave boundaries, like a fence. If my gate is open, my dog will not go out it, unless on command. Same with in and out the house. In the house, my girl Tara is trained to stay on the tile, which keeps her off the wood and carpet flooring.

In the house, my girl Tara is trained to stay on the tile, which keeps her off the wood and carpet flooring. That’s the difference between pointing dogs and retreivers/pets/tools. Not all dogs will stay in the yard. I had a nice lab gyp years ago show up at my place when I was living in East Tx. I had a great retriever for ducks and she was just as nice, the day I found her under my porch. Back then I was a one dog man. I gave her to my dad to use on lake Leon. She always escaped and chased animals on a high fence place. She was an escape artist and wouldn’t stayin the kennel. My dad told his neighbor he’d shocked her numerous times chasing his high fence animals and getting out. She couldn’t be trained. Gyp was shot as she should have been chasing black bucks.

we got a 60 mile electric fence charger from tractor supply for my 2 dogs, it zapped them once, and now if they just see a yellow insulator, they don't get close to it... however, one time Chief was by the fence "doo ing his business" and his tail hit the fence while he was squatting, he didn't crap up there for a month
