I have not climbed in a bow stand this year. I've been waiting for it to cool off some. It was around 90 yesterday, will be 90 again today.

Couldn't see much use in setting on my bow stand as hot and humid as its been in Southeast Texas.

Sure hope its not one of those years when opening day of rifle season I'm wearing shorts.

Thanks, Billy

I killed a buck on Thursday afternoon and it hit 90 that day....I think it was 86 at 7pm that day. I am only about 50 miles off the coast so it is humid here all the time...the only thing missing is some rainfall to make it worse. That buck came in about 5 minutes after the feeder went off and was following in another smaller buck. There was another buck and 2 does that came in after those first two did. It was 99 yesterday and I went to sit in a tower blind to try kill some hogs...only saw one deer at flat dark. We are getting very dry and green forage other than browse is getting slim. There is no mast crop here this fall so the deer are looking for corn or protein to fill in the void. That was my 6th sit of the bow season this year and two other afternoons was just as hot if not hotter one day. Mornings have been nicer here this year but afternoons are getting back to South Texas temps.

I perfer shorts and cowboy boots.

Have to tell off on myself. I was headed to the lease here a while back to work my food plots. Had my tractor on the trailer. Stopped at the walmart in Jasper, Tx to get a couple of SD mem cards. I realized about the time I was at the front door I had shorts, my work boots on and a straw cowboy hat.

Didn't take me long being in Walmart that I was dressed to fit right in!!!!

Thanks, Billy

Hottest day I’ve ever killed a deer was back in Oklahoma on day one of archery season (Oct 1). Had been eagerly anticipating deer season all year, and headed to my spot in the Arkansas River bottoms after work. It was 93 degrees and humid. Sat in my tree stand from 3:00 PM until just before dark before anything moved. Sweat dripping off my elbows and running down my back. A group of does finally came through, and I put a good shot on the biggest one. Watched her crash about 40 yards off. Took my stand down and started her direction. Was just getting dark, and I had seriously underestimated the number of mosquitoes I would be dealing with. Every bush I brushed against resulted in a cloud of blood suckers rising to join the already huge swarm surrounding me. When I got to the deer, she was likewise covered in mosquitoes. It was an utterly miserable hour or so until I got the deer and my gear loaded on the four-wheeler for transport back to my truck.

This was a number of years ago, and I have since discovered Thermacell. However, I still do not want to ever shoot a deer under those conditions again.

I used to not think to much about heat/weather it in my younger days. I lived and hunted in South Texas it was always hot early in the season. I hunted 7 or 8 years across the border in Mexico. It was sure enough dang hot. I recall leaving the ranch in Mexico headed back to Houston and it was 102 Jan. 2nd.

I had a different job back then, could get off without getting in the way. Also had more time off. Now with phone coverage most places work seems to always be around, bet I'm not the only one. Its kinda funny, look at weather forecasts, moon phase, etc. But at the end of the day if I can get shook loose to hunt I go and never look back.

If I get brave enough to retire in March, I plan to hunt and fish as much as I can. I just have to figure how to do it where my wife can semi tag along or not be to far away.

Thanks, Billy

Bow hunted this past weekend in shorts and t-shirt. It was hot and no deer harmed. Dang pigs that have been very regular even did not show for 2 days. Acorns started to fall but at least not a bumper crop like last year. Its just another example of can't wait for 2020 to be gone

Last Sunday was 52 when my granddaughter got hers. All skinned, quartered, and on ice before it hit 65. Then it got to 86 that aftertnoon.

I'm wondering how this thread ties into the one one about chiggers ...

I've posted this before - 'had a customer on our corporate lease that said he used to have a lease that bordered Ft. Hood. Opening weekend it was so dang hot (might have been in a plastic Blynd), that he stripped down to his BVD's. He shot a doe and then figured, it's so dang hot, he'll just slip on his shoes and go clean her in his tighty whities. So here he is, bent over a doe on her back, in nuthin' but his underwear, and that's when he hears the Blackhawk approaching. They hovered for a bit. roflmao

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
