Shane, thank you. I used 5 minute epoxy on some aoudad scales, I found the horns where guys had been dumping all their scraps , got several horns that fell right of the scull , been baking in the sun for a while, anyway they fell off. Forrest

hey Forrest, the steel has to be clean, you may have had some oil when you were trying to attach everything has to be clean, degreased, and all 3 surfaces have to be flat if i use epoxy i use the 15 minute,, sometimes a little extra time is needed to get it all set in place

5 minute epoxy. I have some of the extended use stuff but really don't care for it.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Stabilizing for horns is also recommend like most woods. Liners also will help bonding, and good strong clamps are important. Those factors are far more important than the type of epoxy being used.

To some degree, the longer the cure, the stronger the bond. I personally like G Flex. Flat and clean is critical. And while strong clamps are important, also important is not to clamp so tight that all the glue gets squeezed out of the joint. I typically clamp till the glue starts to squeeze out, then stop. If you don't like the longer cure times, use a little heat. Set it in the sun or in front of the shop heater and it'll cut the cure time by 1/3 to 1/2.

i use G Flex epoxy, and like everyone said, clean it good, flat, and don't squeeze it all out! I also rough up the underside of the scales and handle with some 120g sandpaper

I use West Systems epoxy and clean everything with acetone. I rough up the scales and liners with 60 grit paper and use a carbide burr to rough up the tang before applying the scales and clamping. I use the slow cure epoxy and let it set over night before I do any more work on the scales. I want to make sure everything is totally cured.
