Some people have gone to the above to avoid spooking deer. Would like to know if others have tried this and their opinions. Some others say they the sound of corn hitting the trays attracts deer. Opinions welcomed.

In the 30+ years I’ve been hunting I’ve watched deer tripping over themselves to get to a feeder when it goes off. The noise doesn’t bother them and never will.

Those people are dumb. I can put gravel in a road feeder and pull deer out of the brush

The sound a feeder makes and deer associating it with food is called classical conditioning. Anyone that mutes a feeder is working harder not smarter and is therefore less intellectually enlightened. Basically its the same thing as Pavlov's dog experiment.

Just dumb. Heck, the worse thing about the newer feeder design is their too darn quiet. I can’t hear them at 40 yards, let alone 100.

I’ve found that the dings of corn off of the spinner tray are like ringing the dinner bell. If deer are already at the feeder they may flinch a bit but go right back to feeding.

I can put gravel in a road feeder and pull deer out of the brush ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ lmao On a place I used to guide on they were so used to diesel trucks feeding the roads they would hear us coming down a sendero and stick their heads out as we past them while peppering em with corn!
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Agree, the feeder going off is like a dinner bell. I've converted to stand and fill feeders and actually think they are too quiet.

I'll use a coffee can filled with corn and drive down a sendero and sprinkle corn while shaking the corn in the can making noise to attract the deer! By the time I park my truck and before I can climb into my stand the deer are already out in the open feeding. Silencing a feeder is the dumbest thing I've heard!

I've had deer come out and watch me after I hit the test button on my feeder, I was honestly standing in the feeder pen with the truck parked right outside it. We had 4 doe with yearlings stand there and watch us get back in the truck and drive off

Depends on where ya hunt. When I hunted Mexico I High racked. I was not a deer feeder hunter. Some othe others put out feeders on one place. In some cases corn would stack up under the feeders. One of the guys asked me why. I said these deer don’t know what corn is LOL.
East Texas deer on our place won’t come running to feeders like hill country or South Texas. On our place if you put up a big tall crank up big feeder few deer will come to it. If you set up a low stand and fill they will go to sleep under one.
Thanks, Billy

On my place in east Texas, I have seen deer do a major freak out and disappear through the brush when the feeder went off. After that I changed the timer so it didn’t go off as often.

in my experience...any deer near the feeder when it goes off will run 50 yards or so....they're back within a minute....
I have seen deer come running from 500 yards away when a feeder goes off....padding a spinner plate is a waste of time IMO.

I'm going to do it. I'm also going to lay field turf so that it won't make any noise when it hits the hard packed ground under the feeder.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

On my lease the hogs would eat the field turf, if not then crap all over it and I’d step in it !

How do you quiet the crunching that the deer and hogs make while eating the corn? Should I soak my corn in water maybe? I think when they hear all that crunching they might want to run away!

You train them to chew with their mouths closed, in a polite manner.
