I have 6 feeders, with cams, on my place South of Bowie. When we first filled them with corn, about 3 weeks ago, we were pleasantly surprised at the number of really nice bucks coming to them. And then the hogs moved in. Now, almost nothing but hogs. The best we can figure is 3 different groups plus assorted lone boars. They make the rounds and hit every feeder.

One kid and his girl friend hunted this weekend. Saw 2 does and one small buck that the hogs ran off.

Not sure what to do or even what I can do. I don't live there. Very little hunting around me which means no feeders to draw them away. Also, this year, unlike last year, we have no acorns and the place is almost total oaks.

I try to never discharge a firearm during deer season unless it's at a wall hanger. When the season ends that will change.

All I can suggest is try to trap some when you're there, shoot them at the feeders now, and they may go nocturnal and at least let the deer come to the feeders during daylight.

I have pigs on trail cams, every night, at every feeder, but the deer still show up at 7:30a.m. and 4::30p.m. , so far. I've killed 41 pigs since I bought the place in May of 2019. It needs to be 141.

That's the same thing my dad said too, and now we have the same problem as you. If you want to solve the hogs running the deer off shoot them all every single time you see them. Our rule at our place is not matter what or when hogs are shoot on sight.

LOL, there isn't going to be a deer season if you don't do something about the hogs right now. You think shooting hogs is going to scare away the deer? Hogs have scared away the deer. Shooting hogs is going to be what brings back the deer. The hogs that show up but that are not killed will quickly learn your place is a bad place and the hogs will stay away for a bit.

Otherwise, you are doing nothing more than making the problem worse by continuing to feed in what you describe as a resource deprived area where the hogs are not hunted. That makes YOU the reason for your problem.

Look, I know people want to believe that things are sacred during deer season, like not shooting except for a wall hanger. However, deer get very used to gunfire. You should be hunting hogs throughout the year. I hog hunt some properties that are also used for deer hunting. There are plenty of deer on those properties, like Creekrunner explained. Also like he explained, you need your hogs to go nocturnal, since you don't hunt deer then. So shoot your daylight hogs as much as you can as soon as you can.

We’re having the same problem and decided to start blasting pigs, we shot a bunch and they moved away from that area to about 500 yards away. Within 24 hours the the deer came back and brought friends, a few shooters I’ve never seen before.
Kill some now to put pressure on them or watch your season destroyed

Unless the shot is at them or very near them - deer pay very little attention to gunshots.

Time to quit the no shooting rule. Start shooting and trapping the hogs.

Ask around, landowner and locals in town, find your local cell trapper. Box trapping won't take care of it but cell trappers can. We run two cell traps and can pull them on entire sounders. You'd be amazed at the bucks that come to cell traps after the entire sounder is gone.

I'll certainly ask around, but anyone know of one in the Junction/Menard area? 'Thought about buying one myself, but they're pricey and I'm sure there's a learning curve.

We have panels up around our feeders. Deer jump in and eat. Hogs get a few straggler pieces that manage to get slung outside of the panels. One of the other hunters on my lease watched hogs run some nice deer off the feeder a few weeks ago during the night. He took out 5 hogs this past weekend. I would at least put up panels around the feeders if you haven’t already.

Shoot’em, the deer will appreciate the competition reduction. I have shot pigs at the feeder and had deer back eating there literally before the pig blood dried good. Shot one a couple weeks ago at the feeder at 9pm, had three bucks there eating corn at 10:30. Unless the deer are at the feeder when you shoot, they could care less about the gunshot.
As noted above, once you knock down a couple the rest will probably go away for awhile. Good Luck !!

Well then get you butt out there and shoot them or build some fencing around your feeders. Traps are not scary to hogs. They learn to avoid them, but that is about it. Your feeders are making the hogs very happy.

Fencing around feeders would be a character builder on my rocky land. I use a front end loader with Grandsons attached to fill 6 feeders.

Then start shooting.

I got a 17 HMR a couple of years ago that I wear the hogs out with. I've had many occasions that deer have been around the feeder and I've shot hogs coming in only to have the deer stay and keep eating or just walk off a few steps and come back. The rimfire noise doesn't seem to bother them at all. I usually carry my 270 and 17 to the stands during rifle season. Just keep constant pressure on the hogs and they'll either "get it" and move out or they'll just "get it".

It sounds like your best (and only) real option is to shoot some hogs.

At this time, I’m letting the grandkids bow hunt. On my small 133 acres, I really don’t like to pop a cap until I find a big buck. I don’t find that the deer are undisturbed by gunfire.

I saw a post somewhere here about a guy that spooked some hogs away by just talking saying “Hey hogs”. I’ll get them to try it this weekend.

You're giving deer way too much credit for intelligence.

I may be but doubt it. I have an anti hunting neighbor. Lets just say that we don't get along well at all. He's about 150 yards from my front gate. During bow hunting season he starts shooting a pistol and rifle about dawn and 4:00 in the afternoon on weekends. I do see an effect on deer coming to feeders/movement except on the back of the place. I've watched deer leave feeders when the shooting starts. His intentions are obvious. I stop using my shooting range a couple of months before bow hunting season due to observed effects on deer movement except at night. I've watched deer leaving feeders when the neighbor starts. Of course, it doesn't seem to have a damn bit of effect on the hogs.

Grandsons set up a hog trap and caught about 20 of them a couple of months ago. None were over about 40 pounds. That was nothing but a good start. They are now trap shy at that trap. need to move it.

I don't live there but have a trailer house at the front of the property. Pigs have just about plowed up what passes for a yard around it. I spray around it to kill ticks from hogs.

Anybody got any extra coyotes that they're not using?

Very sorry to hear you're having to put up with that kind of neighbor. 'Seems very few neighbors will just leave you the hell alone. They're either always wanting something or want to tell you how to live.

This summer we switched to drop tubes (Boss Buck Feeders). Did a lot of reading/research before swapping 5 feeders. Long story short. Keep them 45” from the ground. Hogs can’t tech them. Our hogs hardly ever come around now. We get an occasional boar and small Sounders maybe 1 a week on a different feeder. Biggest change is our deer population has been awesome since hogs aren’t messing up the place.
