Local gun shop added the Silencer Shop Kiosk and has me doing a bit more research if it is time for me to jump in. I’d be looking at a 30 cal can. Where I am struggling with is since I’ve never shot one I’m just watching videos and reading online. Every video I’ve seen is very underwhelming and wonder if there would truly be $1000 worth of enjoyment with the can.

Have a 1 year old I’d like to get into the stand next season so that is one motivation on “hearing safe” but the decibel ratings still seem very high from most of what I’ve read.

Only way it’s hearing safe is to shoot sub sonic stuff..

I would look at a 300 win mag rated can and buy one with removeable end caps so you can convert it to whatever caliber you want under 30..

The titanium ones usually have less point of impact shift.

Beyond that they are a hoot, takes up most of the recoil and knocks that snap of the boom off, and in most cases you can start watching your impacts especially at distance.

Most videos make .30 cal rifles sound like 12ga shotguns, is that not accurate?

How bad are ballistics with the 220+ gr subsonic loads?

They are worth every penny. Significant reduced recoil and the numbers on the Db ratings don't equate to what you are really hearing or in this case, not hearing. My best advice is get one rated for 300 Win Mag and is made of titanium. My favorite one thus far is the Dead Air Sandman Ti. I don't hunt without one now.

All depends on twist rate, I have shot sub sonic 308 (168 gr) 600 yards loaded with trail boss shot well enough to hit a steel plate that was 8x10” you could literally see the bullet 2/3rds of the flight in the scope!

No, videos don't do them justice at all. To successfully use subs to hunt big game, you have to get very specialized bullets that absolutely expand at subsonic velocity. 99% of the commercially available stuff will not work as advertised. Subs are not going to knock them stone cold dead like supersonic bullets will either.

Yep, I have a sico hybrid and am looking at a couple of omegas in the next few months. They are hearing safe with super sonic ammo so I am unsure of what point Tabjlr is trying to make but I have not had that in my experience.

I love my Omegas, but I’m not sure that my Harvester isn’t actually a touch quieter. As to the Op, I’ll likely never shoot unsuppressed again in my life if I can avoid it. Worth every penny.

I could see that honestly. My hybrid vs a harvester in .308 on a 16" gun is slightly louder. It is not that noticeable but there is a slight difference.

I got a Shark 9mm suppressor for my ruger 77/357 and my 300BLK. I also have an adapter for use on my .22. I think I like it most on the .22. It really sounds like a dry fire and is so much fun! On the. 357 with subs, it's super quiet too. I am disappointed on the 300BLK. It's much louder than I thought it would be. I think if it were on a 300BLK bolt rifle, it would be much quieter.

I don’t regret purchasing mine at all. I’ll agree with what’s already been said that I don’t want to shoot unsuppressed at all any more. And I don’t shoot any subs at this point. My suppressors are lightweight, compact titanium models that work well on my hunting rifles in 223, 243, 6.5 creed. But I will likely pick up a 308 at some point to play with subs.

Shooting these rifles with can may not be technically hearing safe, but it sure doesn’t hurt like it would unsuppressed if you shoot once or twice while hunting without ear pro. Simple ear plugs defiantly help. No need for large muffs or doubled up ear pro

My 9 year old will be hunting with my Suppressed 243 this year.

Suppressors are worth it. The recoil reduction and sound reduction is very noticeable and make shooting and hunting much more enjoyable. It's like flying first class vs coach.

The only regret I have since buying a suppressor Is I cheaped out and didn't spend the extra for Ti on a one time purchase for me. The weight and the wait. Love the results though!

No suppressor experience but as to decibels. A gain of 3db is a measured doubling of sound. It takes a gain of 10db for a perceived doubling of sound. In the end reduction of 10db is a lot. Don’t get lost in videos or numbers, see if you can find someone that will let you experience it.

Worth every penny. I'll never shoot without a can.

It is way more pleasurable to shoot with it. Wish I would have got a 30 cal vs 556 can but it's awesome shooting my ar now. No recoil and like said before you can stay on target and see the bullet hit. I feel like it made my gun more accurate or maybe just because the recoil and bang are gone. It makes my 16" ar 556 sound just a tad louder then shooting a 22 rifle. I have a Silencerco Saker 556 and love it.
