missed the Sept rain. Planted after it dried out. No rain for past 14 days and none projected for next 10-14. ugh.

Need some rain- maybe sometime soon. Planted my fields last Saturday and threw out 2 1/2 tons of fertilizer on the fields and the pasture.
Lots of the wheat farmers up where I am are "dusting theirs in" so I'm hopeful...

I had enough rain in mid Sept to get the weeds and grassburs started again, so I ran a disc and drag over my plots again two days ago now. Still have some moisture but it is drying out fast and will have discing the fields again. I was going to try to plant this first week of October but the next 7 days shows now chance of rain so I may wait now till mid Oct...still worried about army worms.

Still waiting on rain and none in sight, at least for 10 days. Might have to start season without wheat fields.

I am still waiting to drill my seed. Last year I didn't have the drill and tilled up my plots and didn't get rain for around 6 weeks. I hated hunting over dirt patches for the first month and a half of season. I am gonna wait to drill until I see rain in the forecast or we get rain. I was hoping the hurricanes might turn a little to the west (second time this year I have wished that) but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. Will prob be a few more weeks before seed goes in the ground.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else waiting for rain. What's the consensus, is it better to dust the seeds in now or wait to plant a day or two before a good rain is in the forecast?

I'll wait till just before a decent chance of rain. Between the birds and the harvester ants (big red ones) I would loose some seed if I planted now.

Yep, I was contemplating disking this past week and getting some wheat in the ground, but zero chances of rain in 10 day. Patiently waiting, but if it gets too late, will probably pass for this year and not waste the money or time.

Sad thing was I watched my rain chances go from 70% sat evening to 0....sad deal. Was hoping to get some rain and seed, but nothing hit and the temps were 10 degrees higher than forecast, so hunting was a little different.

I've already disked up my field and have more than 1,000 pounds of seed sitting in the barn. So I'm going to plant at some point. I've just never waited past the first week or two of October.

Does not look good. If it doesn't rain in the next few weeks it is going to be a long winter.

Checked a wheat planted dove field today that was planted on Tuesday. Every harvester ant mound was solid wheat and they were all over the field carrying seed out.

I planted oats last Sunday. I thought I would be tied up for 10 days with a prescribed burn and then had something else planned after that. That was a mistake, somewhat, here in DeWitt County. The plots in the back will be fine until it rains. I irrigated the front to get them up, but the high temperatures will probably cause the grass to compete with the oats. Win some, lose some. I had planned to overseed the plots at the end of October with clover.

Waited as long as I could, wheat went in yesterday (50 Acres). Sure hope we get some rain soon, If not this will be the second year in a row out of 22 years that I start the season with no wheat.
