I was involved in a conversation on THF about the Ford V-6 engines, this video was on another site and I thought you Ford V-6 guys would find this interesting and keep you out of high repair costs

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Good info. Like most modern vehicles most problems don't show up until 100k+ miles. 100k used to be a true milestone for a vehicle.

The point about "drive the truck like you really want to" ensures the boost system gets used frequently enough to prevent failure ... was most interesting.

I've heard for years that you don't need to change your oil every 3000 miles anymore. That might be a myth. Manufacturers also say you don't need to let your engine warm up anymore either,, which doesn't make any since to me. I think they just say that because it reduces gas mileage.

Ive sent used engine oil with 10,000 miles on it to an independent oil analysis lab to have it tested for wear metal and to see if the lubricating properties of the oil are still there. They said wear metals were very low and i could easily run longer on the oil. Changing oil at 3,000 miles is most likely a waste considering somewhat modern engines in ok condition and modern oil/filters.

Use a good quality oil that meets or exceeds the specs of the manufacturer and dont run over on your oil changes.

My Toyota says 10K between oil changes.

The 3000 miles rule has been obsolete for decades now. Unless your doing real severe towing most are 10k miles on changes between changes being necessary.

And if you want longevity I recommend warming up the engine

I think the warm up thing is good to a point.

I dont fire it up and smash on it, but i dont let it idle for long either. Idle time is not a motors friend either. I crank it up let the rpm fall from start up built oil pressure etc. and then start driving with a light foot. Especially with a diesel light operation will warm it up way faster than just idling.

I change mine every 5 thousand. I live on a dirt road and drive under some pretty dusty conditions most of the time.

I drive a company truck (Pipeline in the Permian) 50-75000 a year Change oil when I get an email from fleet management usually about 10-12000 miles.

Never had an oil related issue. Change filters then too.
